Flogas Britain is one of the largest distributors of off-grid energy in the UK and has over 30 years’ experience of providing solutions to both commercial and domestic customers, principally in the form of liquid gas. The business has a longstanding record of organic growth driven by new installations, underpinned by a strong technical engineering expertise and capability, which combined with a number of bolt-on acquisitions have resulted in its market share increasing from 10% to over 30%. The business is at the forefront of the energy transition having developed a prominent track record in converting customers from higher emissions fuels to lower carbon and cleaner solutions for the last decade and is well placed with a significant range of opportunities to develop and diversify into New Energies into the future in line with our 2040 vision to provide 100% renewable solutions to customers.
The recent acquisition of Protech by Flogas Britain further extends the business’ capabilities in this regard to provide innovative and lower carbon solutions into the commercial sector; combining renewable-ready gas combustion with alternative technologies such as heat-pumps, solar power and electric vehicle charging to provide a complete solution to customers and assisting them on their own path to net zero. Flogas Britain has revenues in excess of £300 million and employs over 1,200 people across its multi-sited operation across Britain with its headquarters in Syston, Leicestershire.
JOB PURPOSE
Reporting to the Head of Operations Engineering, the Operations Engineering Managers will play a key role in the development of Flogas’ network of Operational sites, improving process safety, personal safety, operational resilience and upgrading sites to Target Plant design by:
- Managing engineering projects across the Operations network ideally in a region, from inception through to completion.
- Managing the annual programme of statutory inspections on operational site storage vessels and pipework.
- Coordination and completion of projects, delivered safely, on time, within budget, within scope and in compliance with a governance framework.
- Supporting Site Manager’s with on-site management of projects – where complex or where manager is inexperienced.
- Assisting in identifying engineering projects across the Operations network that will improve process safety, personal safety and/or improve operational efficiencies & resilience.
- Assisting in identifying and implementing improvements to plant maintenance regimes.
- Working closely with operational colleagues and other departments, particularly Technical Services & H&S, as well as external contractors, to deliver projects.
- The role will also involve backfilling PM on customer projects if the Engineering PM is looking after Operations projects.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Deliver projects safely, with a zero incident & near miss target, ensuring any incidents or near misses are investigated and lessons applied to future projects (Operations & Customer Projects).
- Ensure projects are enacted with all relevant safety compliance met, e.g. Legislative, CDM, Flogas Standards, SOP’s, WIs & Guidance.
- Building links with local depots to assist with breakdowns and liaise with Technical Engineering.
- Ensure projects are implemented within the company’s governance requirements.
- Define scope of projects and agree with stakeholders.
- Deliver projects within scope, ensuring any variations to scope are understood, agreed with relevant parties and suitably documented.
- Deliver projects to time, ensuring any deviations are understood and agreed.
- Deliver projects to or below budget, ensuring any variations are understood.
- Produce annual central ops budget for planned projects and vessel/pipework statutory inspections.
- Produce regular reports keeping all stakeholders updated on project progress in all areas.
- Support Site Manager’s with on-site management of projects – where complex or manager is inexperienced – to ensure projects are delivered safely, on-time, to scope and to budget.
- Act as the intelligent customer when liaising with specialist contractors.
