Job Profile Summary
The Senior Well Abandonment Engineer is responsible for all aspects of designing, planning execution stage and post well review of well abandonment operations. The role requires the collection and evaluation of all offset data, making an assessment of the existing conditions and definition of appropriate, optimised designs for specific projects.
Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- Support the project management for multiple projects ensuring that current status of all wells is thoroughly understood and options for abandonment have been identified and evaluated leading to optimal solutions being implemented.
- Contribute to the production of conceptual design and initial well plug & abandonment planning as driven by the Well work Schedule deadlines encompassing preparation of P&A steps to include plug placement, cement reviews, downhole tooling configuration, engineering risk review – whether rig-based or rig-less.
- Plan all the Well Plug and Abandonment Activities to RRUK standards.
- Partner with the central team to secure the necessary expertise, following the Repsol standard of working.
- Collaborate effectively within a Wells Team for streamlined project execution.
- Prioritise safety and efficiency in project planning and delivery.
- Ensure to focus on performance and cost management to meet project goals.
- Develop fit for purpose technical and commercial solutions for project success.
- Utilise digital data for informed decision-making throughout projects.
- Ensure exemplary HSE (health, safety and environment) delivery for all operations.
- Investigate incidents, ensure root cause is identified and lessons learned captured.
- Ensure all relevant regulatory engagement and consents are in place and managed.
- Liaison with SCM representatives’ recommendations for contract strategies.
- Ensure that the well construction design and P&A design is fit for purpose, cost effective (demonstrated through benchmarking) and consistent with industry best practice.
- Takes care of the Operations key duties.
- Engage with appropriate disciplines/departments to ensure production of relevant Basis Of Design document (BOD).
- Establish suitable budgets and maintain effective project financial control.
- Lead continuous improvement in all operations.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates and provide input to budget/scheduling.
- To follow quality plan & lead the identification and implementation of suitable quality controls.
- Arrange and track to completion quality activities such as audits, inspections and NCRs.
- Feedback on any quality lessons for future work.
- Engage with key vendors/suppliers to assess how they are managing quality on UKBU’s behalf.
Professional Skills and Experiences
- Prior experience in the North Sea well engineering / workover.
- Proven track record of managing financial budgets.
- Awareness and competence in Quality Assurance and Quality Control preferred.
Educational Qualification and Certifications
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Engineering (Petroleum, Mechanical, Chemical etc.) or related fields.
- Current IWCF (or equivalent) Well Control Certificate (Drilling Supervisor Level).
- Relevant certification including BOSIET and medical.
Other Requirements
The role may require travelling offshore for certain business requirements.
