We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to boost our 3D design capacity; working with a team of multi-disciplinary engineers and scientists to drive forward our next-generation biosensing product. For this role, we are looking for excellent skill in 3D design and deep experience in design for manufacture. Creative thinking and significant attention to detail will also serve you well in this role. Above all, the ideal candidate is highly motivated and driven, with an ambition for technical improvement and a desire to contribute to the overall success of our product.
Responsibilities:
- 3D computer-aided design (CAD) in SolidWorks
- Engineering drawing creation
- Contribution to tolerance analysis activities
- Designing for manufacture (focus on, but not limited to, injection-moulding and machining)
- Thorough documentation of design process using decision logs, design reviews and technical reports
- Management of vendors and manufacturers
- Prototyping and proving concepts from a technical standpoint
- Adherence to our processes and quality management system (QMS)
Past Experience:
- 3D design for injection-moulded components and machined parts
- Experience designing for prototyping and proofs of concept
Requirements:
- Ability to demonstrate engineering design skills expected from someone with 2-3 years of experience in a relevant role
- Very high levels of competence with 3D mechanical design software
- Strong technical communication skills
- Keen attention to detail
- Skill with hands-on assembly and craft work
- Ability to analyse tolerance stacks and design components with manufacturing variation in mind
- Solid foundation in fundamental engineering principles (solid mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, materials etc.)
- Good intuition of mechanical systems, particularly at small size scales
- Thorough approach to engineering documentation
- Ability to leverage engineering tools and software to improve efficiency and quality of work
- Basic ability to carry out testing in support of product design
- Aspiration and drive for excellence
Preferred:
- Experience with electromechanical systems
- Experience with fluidic / microfluidic design
- Familiarity with pneumatic systems
- Basic understanding of electronic circuits
- Experience designing microfabricated and high-precision components
- Practical experience with engineering analysis tools, such as MATLAB/Octave, LabView, ANSYS etc.
