Are you a Mechanical Design Engineer looking to lead cutting-edge design projects within a globally recognised company? This is an exciting opportunity to join a world leader in ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicles), trenchers, and submarine rescue systems, providing innovative solutions for deep-water intervention. Based onsite in Kirkbymoorside, North Yorkshire, you’ll play a key role in developing high-performance subsea technology, ensuring reliability in some of the most challenging environments.

Offering a structured 37-hour workweek (Monday-Thursday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, Friday 8:30 am – 4:00 pm) with flexi-time available, 25 days’ holiday plus bank holidays, private healthcare, a 5% pension, and life insurance (2x base salary), this role provides stability, career growth, and a strong benefits package.

The successful Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Leading mechanical engineering design projects from concept through to manufacturing.
  • Providing technical leadership and supervision in mechanical design.
  • Producing detailed engineering designs, calculations, and documentation to ISO 9001 standards.
  • Overseeing structural analysis, finite element analysis (FEA), and power transmission systems.
  • Ensuring the suitability of designs for subsea and harsh environments, considering material science, corrosion effects, and hydraulic sealing systems.
  • Supporting offsite engineering, customer training, and product integration.
  • Providing technical support to production, logistics, and integration teams.
  • Working within project budgets and timescales, ensuring compliance with company procedures and international standards.
  • Instructing, mentoring, and training subordinate engineering staff.

The successful Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will have:

  • Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in an engineering design environment.
  • Expertise in structural analysis, scoping calculations, and FEA (Ansys/SolidWorks Simulation).
  • Strong knowledge of mechanisms, kinematics, power transmission, and manufacturing techniques.
  • Experience with material selection, corrosion protection, hydraulic sealing systems, and inspection/testing requirements.
  • Ability to lead projects, liaise with clients, internal teams, and third parties, and deliver results within deadlines.
  • Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD software (AutoCAD/DraftSight, SolidWorks).
  • Desirable: Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, offshore experience, and ROV system design expertise.
