NHS Grampian invites enthusiastic applicants for a full time Fixed Term Consultant Paediatrician with interest in Respiratory, based within Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital (RACH). The post holder will join 3 other Consultants in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine, based at RACH and working within the North of Scotland Paediatric Respiratory Network.
The successful appointee will contribute to an on-call 1:10 rota and Consultant-of-the-Week rota (approximately 5 weeks a year). RACH provides specialist inpatient and outpatient care in Medical Paediatrics, General Paediatric Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Plastic Surgery, ENT, Dermatology, Gastroenterology, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Dental Services, Ophthalmology, Oncology, Haematology and Clinical Genetics, as well as Child and Family Mental Health Service. Additionally, the hospital has its own Accident and Emergency Department under direct Consultant supervision. There are approximately 8000 attendances annually.
RACH also has its own departments of Radiology, Pharmacy, Dietetics, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Play and Social Work. A 10 bedded Paediatric Assessment Unit (PAU) receives the vast majority of unscheduled Medical Paediatric and A&E admissions. Children stay up to 24 hours and if not discharged are transferred to the Medical Ward. The 30 bedded Medical Ward also receives elective admissions and directly admits patients with chronic conditions e.g. Oncology, Diabetes, Cystic Fibrosis. The 4 bedded High Dependency Unit is a facility for all medical and surgical specialities. The Department of Community Child Health and a purpose built Child Protection suite are located within the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital.
A healthy balance between activities at work and out of work is readily achievable at NHS Grampian. Aberdeen offers all the attractions of any major city. Aberdeenshire boasts many picturesque towns and villages within easy commuting distance and provides access to an enormous range of outdoor pursuits, ranging from fishing to skiing. There are excellent facilities available for high quality education, both state and private. Excellent transport links ensure that Edinburgh and Glasgow are less than 3 hours by train and the Aberdeen airport has multiple flights daily to London and many other destinations across the UK and Europe.
Full registration with a licence to practise with the GMC is required. (licence to practise must be in place prior to starting in post). Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from date of interview. Alternatively, applicants should possess a CESR / CESR (CP).
