We are currently seeking a Principal Cloud Operations Database Engineer to take responsibility for bridging the technical gaps between Development and Operations by optimizing, managing, and enhancing database performance, integrity, and availability. As a Cloud Operations Database Engineer at Sage, you will work across various products and teams, ensuring product databases remain available, secure, and performant. You will design, implement, and optimize database architectures while proactively monitoring performance, troubleshooting issues, and implementing solutions to enhance system efficiency and prevent customer impact. Please note that this role is hybrid and will require you to work 3 days a week from our Newcastle office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize scalable, high-performance database architectures.
  • Ensure security with access controls and encryption standards.
  • Implement backup and recovery procedures for data integrity.
  • Monitor performance, troubleshoot issues, and proactively prevent disruptions.
  • Manage database migrations, upgrades, and patches while developing automated scripts for routine maintenance tasks.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in designing, implementing, and optimizing database architectures for high availability, scalability, and performance.
  • Expertise in MS SQL, with knowledge of MySQL and PostgreSQL as a plus.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
  • Background of working with large-scale global products, services, and security.
