As a consultant dermatologist at DMC, you will work autonomously and be responsible for providing specialist dermatological medical services to our patient population. This involves delivering an excellent standard of clinical care in dermatology while adhering to the (GMS/PMS/APMS) contract. You will also comply with the GMC standards for good medical practice and contribute to the effective management of the practice, particularly in dermatological care, while maintaining a positive relationship with the multidisciplinary team.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Delivering high-quality medical care with an emphasis on dermatology to those entitled.
  • Providing specialised dermatological services in accordance with the (GMS/PMS/APMS) agreement.
  • Treating a range of skin conditions, including complex and chronic dermatological issues.
  • Engaging in dermatology clinics and offering expert guidance to general practitioners.
  • Managing dermatological administrative duties, such as referrals and skin-related medication management.
  • Performing dermatological procedures and surgeries as necessary.
  • Maintaining precise and comprehensive clinical records for dermatological treatments.
  • Collaborating with the dermatology department and the broader general practice team.
  • Keeping up to date with the latest developments in dermatology and implementing best practices.
  • Leading dermatology quality improvement initiatives within the practice.
  • Overseeing dermatological aspects of QOF.
  • Participating in dermatology-related practice meetings.
  • Contributing to the development and maintenance of dermatological services, including clinical governance and training.
  • Ensuring compliance with dermatological standards in the appraisal process.
  • Engaging in dermatology-specific revalidation.

Personal specification

Essential:

  • Possession of a medical degree alongside a recognised specialist qualification in Dermatology, such as a Diploma in Dermatology.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing a broad spectrum of skin conditions, encompassing complex and chronic dermatological illnesses.
  • Active registration with the General Medical Council and listing on the National Performers List.
  • Proven capability in performing dermatological procedures and surgeries, along with expertise in dermatological pharmacotherapy.
  • Extensive experience in dermatology outpatient settings, offering diagnostic and therapeutic services.
  • Dedication to delivering high-quality, evidence-based care in dermatology.
  • Outstanding dermatology-specific clinical skills and excellent communication abilities for effective patient care and teamwork with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Skill in using clinical IT systems pertinent to dermatological practice.
  • Demonstrated leadership in clinical contexts and effectiveness in multidisciplinary team collaboration.
  • Ongoing engagement in professional learning and development within dermatology.
  • Involvement in dermatological research or education is highly regarded.
  • Legal entitlement to practice medicine in the UK.
  • Familiarity with the Quality and Outcomes Framework and clinical audit experience, especially in dermatology.
  • Capability to efficiently handle a diverse and challenging workload.
  • Demonstrated empathy and sensitivity towards patients with dermatological conditions.
  • Successful completion of a DBS check.
  • Required occupational health clearance confirming fitness for clinical practice.

Desirable:
