Job Title: Head of Design – Maternity Cover (12 months) Role Type: Full Time – Hybrid Department: Design Start Date: Early March 2025 Location: London Salary: Competitive The Role We are looking for an experienced Head of Design to join Derek Rose’s team based in Baker Street, for a 12-month maternity contract. In your role as Head of Design, you will report to the CEO and lead the design team, overseeing all aspects of the design process from conception through to final production. You will spearhead the creative direction and development of our collections ensuring they reflect our identity and align with the brand strategy, whilst working closely with other departments including merchandising, creative and ecommerce. Duties and Responsibilities: Define and lead the creative vision for all seasonal garment and textile designs ensuring consistency with the brands values and market positioning. Drive the product strategy forward in line with evolving business priorities. Lead and develop the design team whilst fostering a collaborative and innovative environment Oversee the design and development process ensuring that the critical path deadlines are being met at all key stages. Work closely with the merchandising and production teams to ensure effective range planning. Collaborate with the ecom team and ensure they have all assets and content required. Oversee development costs and ensure spending / resources are aligned with the business priorities. Manage all HR functions for the design team including annual reviews, recruitment and holiday approvals. Facilitate presentations at major milestones to all relevant stakeholders. Participate in regular meetings with the management team. Give clear briefs for new fabric developments and work closely with the product developer to source, cross cost and develop new base cloths. Manage the creative communication between design and retail including signing off the VM guidelines each season. Plan and manage deadlines for all studio photoshoots and support the creative designer where needed to action these effectively. Create the product shot list each season for the campaign shoots. Skills and Experience Required: 2+ years experience in a Head of Design or similar role. Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or a related degree. Proven track record in leading a team with passion, energy and confidence. Strong communication and presentation skills – both verbal and written. Strong aesthetic sense with a keen eye for detail and strong understanding of the luxury market. Excellent communication, organisational and project management skills. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite including Illustrator and InDesign. Deep understanding of materials, garment construction and the development process. Excellent team player, calm under pressure, sociable with sound interpersonal skills. Experience working for a menswear brand is preferred.
