Criminal Defence Solicitor

We are seeking a dedicated and hardworking Criminal Defence Solicitor, with Duty Solicitor status, to join our established legal team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing expert legal advice and representation to clients facing criminal charges, from minor offences to serious crimes. The role involves managing a legal aid and private client caseload, attending Magistrates/Crown Courts and Police stations and working closely with clients and barristers to ensure the best possible outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Provide legal advice and representation to clients in criminal defence cases
2. Manage a diverse caseload, ensuring timely and effective case progression
3. Prepare and review legal documents, including prosecution evidence, briefs to Counsel and dealing with the LAA
4. Conduct thorough legal research and analysis
5. Attend Court hearings, conduct trials, and provide representation at Police stations
6. Negotiate with prosecutors and other legal professionals to secure favourable outcomes for clients
7. Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records, Court diary and case files
8. Stay informed about changes in criminal law and legal precedents
9. Collaborate with colleagues and support staff to ensure high-quality service delivery

Qualifications:

1. Qualified Duty Solicitor with a current practicing certificate
2. Ideally at least 2 years PQE in criminal defence law
3. Strong knowledge of criminal law and legal procedures
4. Excellent advocacy and negotiation skills
5. Ability to manage a high-volume caseload effectively and achieve financial targets
6. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
8. Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
9. Ability to work independently and as part of a team
