About The Role
As a Commissioning Editor, your main responsibility is to attract high-quality content to our Fully Open Access journals. You'll do this by creating special Collections of articles on specific topics. This is a crucial part of our strategy to expand our Open Access journal content. In your role, you'll work closely with our In-house Editors, Editor-in-Chiefs and Editorial Board Members to propose timely and impactful topics. You'll research publishing market trends and use data analytic tools to inform these decisions. Your job also involves reaching out to top researchers and inviting them to participate in these Collections. This is a rare opportunity to join a growing team at an important time. Role Responsibilities
- Create, communicate and implement strategic commissioning plans for a portfolio of journals
- Research and explore trends in the research publishing market and global communities
- Proactively build and leverage relationships with internal and external editorial communities
- Creatively use a variety of data analysis tools to provide thoughtful, data-informed insights and recommendations to internal Editors
- Collaborate with our journals’ editorial teams to align Collection and journal strategy
- Build relationships with new and existing Guest Editors and potential authors, inviting them to edit a Collection or submit their research articles
- Facilitate meetings with internal and external stakeholders
- Work closely with the global team of Commissioning Editors, Managing Editors and Team Leads to support the start-to-finish delivery of high-quality Collections
Experience, Skills & Qualifications
- Excellent communication and organisation skills, both written and verbal
- Motivated by targets and comfortable in a goal-oriented, collaborative team environment
- Ability to plan ahead and think strategically using an analytic mindset
- A creative and solutions-focused approach to complex situations
- Strong evidence of relationship building, preferably experience of connecting with and presenting to high-level stakeholders
- Solid negotiation skills with the ability to interpret and use data effectively
- Comfortable with prioritising, balancing and looking after multiple workflows at different stages
- A growth mindset with a demonstrated ability to learn new systems and technical processes
