We are looking to recruit a Restructuring Senior Associate at 6+ years PQE with restructuring and insolvency experience to join our London office. The role will have an emphasis on transactional, restructuring and advisory work, and all types of non-contentious restructuring and insolvency matters. There will also be opportunities to work on contentious restructuring and insolvency matters if the candidate is interested in such matters.

Our London Team has a strong focus on a wide range of restructuring and insolvency matters across sectors such as financial services, real estate, infrastructure, professional practices, retail, and education. Our market-leading practice focuses on business restructurings, restructuring and insolvency issues, advising boards of directors and all stakeholders in a restructuring and is well supported by its integrated international network.

Nationally, our highly rated Restructuring team, part of our Banking and Finance group, advises financial institutions, turnaround and insolvency practitioners, company directors, shareholders, and other stakeholders on strategies for recovery and turnaround. We act for all the major clearing banks as well as a wide variety of other lenders. We also act for a broad range of companies and borrowers in formulating and implementing restructurings through formal and consensual means. We are regularly involved in more complex, high-profile, and high-value restructurings at an early stage in the financial decline curve, with the aim of providing innovative solutions which improve returns to stakeholders and, in many cases, avoid an insolvency process altogether. We are building an increasing reputation for taking roles on some of the most complex restructurings in the market, often advising the boards of directors or other individual stakeholders. Operating across the UK and beyond, the team has 14 partners and a team of 32 lawyers, making it one of the largest teams of any practice.

Key clients:

  • All UK clearing banks except the Bank of England
  • A number of overseas banks
  • Rcapital
  • Blazehill Capital
  • PwC
  • Teneo
  • Interpath
  • FRP
  • EY
  • BDO
  • Gordon Brothers

Work highlights:

  • Advising for the administrators of Derby County Football club.
  • Advising Four Seasons Healthcare group and subsequently the administrators of certain group companies on its restructuring.
  • Advising London and Southend Airport Company Limited in its dispute with its Lenders and successful financial restructuring.
  • Advising intu Milton Keynes Limited on its successful £140m financial restructuring of its debt and equity following the administration of intu Shopping Centres.
  • Advising the board of Bulb Energy Limited and the directors of its subsidiaries incorporated in UK, US, France, and Spain.
  • Advising Nostrum Oil & Gas in connection with its $1bn Scheme of Arrangement, in particular around the structuring of its compromise of certain noteholders subject to sanctions by the UK Government.
  • Advising Modella Capital on the financial restructuring and ultimate administration of Ted Baker’s UK business.
  • Advising FRP Advisory Limited as the joint administrators of Safe Hands Plans Limited, a pre-paid funeral provider to approximately 46,000 customers in the UK.

The team displays a very professional, proactive, and highly collaborative approach. ‘The team are technically strong, particularly from a banking/security perspective, as well as highly commercial dealmakers who are often critical to us completing deals, enabling us to complete transactions swiftly often in competition with other investors ensuring we take a balanced view of risk/reward. There is no other team who we can go to in highly complex situations where we need both core R&I led advice supported by strong cross-functional teams.’ Legal 500, 2024. The team won “Restructuring Team of the Year” at the Lawyer’s awards for 2023 and is nominated for 2024.
