We’ve partnered with an innovative food tech company making tasty, healthy and sustainable meat alternatives. They’re currently launching the first ultra realistic steak made from mycelium. They are looking for an experienced Senior Process Engineer to manage their fermentation and bioreactor scale-up strategy. This person should be an expert in engineering and bioreactor scalability, and have previous experience with bioreactor design work. They should be passionate about technology & sustainability, with a strong entrepreneurial drive.
Key responsibilities
- Lead work around bioreactor design optimisation and adaptation, with a focus on scaling up our patent-pending fermentation process into larger vessels.
- Help design our pilot and commercial production facilities.
- Develop and improve manufacturing processes to enhance productivity, quality and safety.
- Identify and implement process improvements to reduce costs, minimise waste and increase efficiency.
- Monitor and analyse process performance metrics, such as yield, productivity, titer, and develop strategies to meet or exceed targets.
- Establish strategic partnerships to support our goals, and manage our existing R&D partners (CMOs, R&D partners, etc.).
- Establish and oversee key experiments at lab and pilot scale.
Requirements
- 5+ years experience in process engineering.
- BSc or MSc in Engineering (chemical, mechanical, industrial or similar).
- Experience scaling up a bioprocess at large volumes (>1000L).
- Extensive experience in fermentation processes across a wide range of organisms.
- The ideal candidate will possess in-depth knowledge of fungal fermentation. Experience with different types of fermentation is beneficial.
- Strong background in aerobic fermentations, oxygen uptake, kLa and mass transfer.
- Proficient in ALL of the following: process analysis, process modelling, statistical analysis, simulation software, and computer-aided design (CAD) tools.
- Passion for food, the plant-based industry, and sustainability.
