Location: London

Salary: Base salary: £79300pa to c.£99150pa depending on skills and experience. In addition, we offer flexible benefits fund of 20% which is paid on top base salary and is fully pensionable, as well as a range of competitive benefits.

As a Snr Project Manager at HS2, you will be responsible for assuring that requirements and scope developed in the delivery of works on Network Rail assets meet HS2 outcomes. The Senior Project Manager acts as the HS2 representative accountable for discharging HS2 duties in relation to funding, requirements and value for money, acting as the single point of interface with HS2 Civils Integrated Project Teams (IPTs) and HS2 Rail Systems with delegated authority to make “best for programme” decisions.

About the role:

  • Represent the HS2 Client within the delivery unit, acting as the single formal point of interface with Integrated Project Teams (IPTs) with delegated authority to make “best for programme” decisions within IPT governance.
  • Assure that requirements and scope developed meet HS2 outcomes and represent value for money and support mediation between HS2 and NR in resolving requirements issues.
  • Ensure compliance to U&As and EMRs in the Phase One Act.
  • Support in enabling a streamlined approach to obtain funding and change approvals.
  • Arbitrate between NR and HS2 on any differences between NR cost estimate and available budget.
  • Approve changes within delegated authority and authorised budget, assuring that cost estimates and proposed changes represent value for money.
  • Own the authorised project risk contingency and authorise budget delegations, seeking funding outside limits.
  • Proactively manage project risks and support mitigation of HS2 & NR programme level risks.
  • Manage relationships with interfacing HS2 functions and projects.
  • Actively promote and embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all your work, and support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI.

About You:

Skills:

  • Project Management – the ability to develop, plan and integrate projects to optimise target costs, dependencies, risk management and project benefits.
  • Problem Solving – the ability to identify problems and review related information in order to manage the development and evaluation of options and implementation of solutions.
  • Decision Making – the ability to identify, manage, gather and synthesise the necessary information and facilitate the identification of options.
  • Influencing & Negotiating – the ability to influence and negotiate with internal functions and external supply chain partners.
  • Developing & Maintaining Relationships – Ability to establish and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • The ability to effectively lead and manage a team to deliver team accountabilities and required projects.

Knowledge:

  • Degree level qualification in project management, engineering, commercial management, or equivalent experience.
  • Project management knowledge aligned to the level of APM Project Manager (advanced).
  • Awareness of the technical elements of the relevant scope of work within the overall HS2 programme.
  • Management of complex interfaces with multiple parties, preferably within the context of a major infrastructure project.
  • Project management techniques including risk, contingency, cost, schedule and scope management.
  • Awareness of the nature of the relevant contract/agreement structures and the design and application of appropriate performance systems.

Type of experience:

  • Experience of projects lifecycles including planning, procuring, developing and implementing project activities.
  • Experience of testing and commissioning across complex technical integration projects.
  • Experience of leading, managing people and working across functions and disciplines to deliver complex objectives.
