Charlton Athletic Football Club is an English professional association football club based in Charlton, south-east London. The club was founded on June 9th, 1905 and has a storied history, including winning the FA Cup in 1947 and re-establishing the women\’s team as a full-time professional squad in 2021.
Role Description:
To be responsible for the Sport Science and Strength and Conditioning provision delivered to Charlton Athletic Women first team players, including overseeing provisions across the Women and Girl’s programmes.
Key Responsibilities:
- The development and delivery of a Sports Science and Strength and Conditioning support program to the Charlton Athletic Women’s FC.
- The delivery of individual and group strength and conditioning services to our Women’s players, including rehabilitating and acute return-to-play management.
- To provide appropriate match day support, ensuring all equipment is available and proper, including nutritional strategies.
- Work effectively with technical coaches to develop practices incorporating physical, tactical, technical, and mental components.
- Attend staff meetings to contribute to the planning and execution of team training.
- Assess, monitor, analyze, and report on team and individual player physical and physiological information.
- Utilize Kitman Labs and SharePoint systems to analyze, store, and monitor relevant data.
- Maintain our database for all players and staff, ensuring effective communication of schedules.
- Communicate effectively with international federations regarding player transitions.
- Ensure the maintenance of relevant equipment.
- Log and monitor the status of all utilized gym equipment.
- Implement effective recovery strategies when necessary.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with club Sport Science staff.
- Maintain a comprehensive database of work conducted with players and coaches.
- Lead data-collection and analysis of player monitoring.
- Educate players and their parents/guardians on relevant topics.
- Perform physical testing and monitor activities to construct player profiles.
- Work with a nutrition consultant to develop nutritional strategies.
- Undertake reasonable duties as requested by the Manager or other staff members.
- Attend any FA workshops or meetings as required.
Main Job Requirements and Person Specification:
- Extremely motivated and passionate about high performance sport.
- Degree in sports science or related area specializing in the physical preparation of elite athletes.
- UK Strength and Conditioning Association Accreditation (UKSCA) or equivalent.
- Experience providing S&C support to female athletes and coaches.
- Experience developing and evaluating strength and conditioning programmes.
- Knowledge of constructing strength, power, and endurance-based training programmes.
- Ability to coach and integrate football skills into strength and conditioning sessions.
- Ability to implement innovative ideas and problem-solve under pressure.
- Understanding of I.T. and ability to use computer-based programmes.
- Commitment to continued professional development.
- Enhanced DBS clearance.
