Initially, the apprentice will work alongside a lead engineer, learning and developing in the field of fire & security. Alder Security is looking for an apprentice based in the Abingdon area due to company growth. This is a multi-disciplined Fire & Security three-year apprenticeship. Day-to-day learning and working will involve, but is not exclusive to, the following:

  • Running cables
  • Isolating wires
  • Setting up CCTV cameras and linking them with IP addresses
  • Internal and external cable installations
  • Cable termination
  • Fluke test and documentation
  • Resolution testing and documentation
  • Site acceptance testing (SAT)
  • System functional test plans
  • Attend manufacturer product training
  • Health & Safety training/IPAF

This apprenticeship includes block release one week every eight weeks to the Watford training centre.

Entry requirements: No criminal record. Preference will be given to candidates aged 16 to 21. A driving license is preferred; if you do not have a driver's license, you must live within 5 miles of OX14. Must be from the Oxford Abingdon area. Maths & English at a Grade 4, C or Level 2 (if you do not have this, you will be sitting this alongside your apprenticeship).

Training to be provided: Skills for Security will deliver the apprenticeship training in block release. You will be required to complete all training tasks allocated during your block release weeks at the training centre and gather any site evidence needed to supplement your studies. You will be required to complete an annual assessment at the training centre and take part in any additional training courses that the company requires you to complete. The employer will mentor and coach you on the job.

Things to consider: The apprenticeship is 36 months; therefore, full commitment is needed. You will be required to travel to the Watford training centre. Salary can be negotiated based on successful trial.

Future prospects: Once completed successfully, you will be a fully qualified engineer.

Hours per week: 40

Working week: 8am to 5pm
