Introduction

The Chief Operating Officer Group (COO) are exploring how Generative AI can improve the way we work. The primary focus of this role is to develop, oversee, and drive AI-related initiatives that simplify operations and improve effectiveness and efficiency. It will work closely with the GenAI Programme Team and frontline staff in COO and Corporate Functions to better support the BBC's public purposes.

Responsibilities

  • This role will work within the Gen AI Programme Team and will be heavily integrated into COO Group in order to identify and deliver business benefits via responsible use of Generative AI.
  • Works on own initiative, organises and plans a demanding workload, and sensitively manages conflicting priorities.
  • Oversees the development, planning, management and delivery of projects related to Gen AI and facilitates the adoption of AI within COO Group.
  • Specifically focuses on delivering simplification, efficiency, standardising processes and reducing bureaucracy.
  • Works together with Senior Leaders across the BBC building effective relationships to produce recommendations and identify Gen AI processes that could help the BBC work more effectively and efficiently.
  • Responsible for accurately scoping and clarifying requirements for projects.
  • Accountable for unblocking issues, managing risks ensuring the successful delivery of projects related to AI.
  • Prioritises use cases against key criteria such as value, feasibility and cost and then works with relevant business leaders and teams to pilot, evaluate and scale uses.
  • Structures, analyses and synthesises findings into presentations and reports that are easily digested by relevant stakeholders.
  • Delivers proactive and effective stakeholder engagement and communication across all levels of stakeholders and the organisation.
  • Responds positively to changing business requirements and uses skills to support other areas of the BBC if required.

Are you the right candidate?

The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience of:

  • Idea development, workshop facilitation and ensuring action is taken and embedded within the organisation.
  • Proven experience of leading significant projects in a relevant media sector with evidence of successful outcomes.
  • Strong organisational skills, experienced in managing projects, managing and leading others to accomplish difficult goals.
  • Demonstrable understanding of organisational dynamics and an understanding of business processes, policies, tools and methodologies relevant to operational change.
  • Experienced in coaching, mentoring and developing high performing teams.
  • Able to motivate and mobilise others.
  • Knowledge and application of benefits management - from strategy to realisation.
  • Credibility and impact with senior leaders; an ability to use influence to enable change to happen through others.
  • Ability to structure, analyse and synthesise findings.
  • Able to communicate own perspective and support it with facts.
  • Good knowledge of strategic business models and applies the relevant analytical and operational frameworks for the business problem.
  • Sound computer skills, particularly with spreadsheet and presentation packages.
  • Experience of data analysis.
  • Strong report writing, proofing and editing skills, and attention to detail.
  • Understanding of AI within the broadcasting and media sectors, and an understanding of public service obligations.
  • Knowledge of how Gen AI tools can be used to deliver business value, including best practice market examples.
