We currently have an opportunity to join our team as a Managing Quantity Surveyor on the A428 Black Cat to Caxton Gibbet Improvement project. The purpose of the National Highways scheme is to address the problems of congestion, poor journey time reliability and poor resilience against incidents between the Black Cat and Caxton Gibbet roundabouts. The Scheme involves construction of a new 10 mile dual 2-lane carriageway and associated bridges and structures from west of the A421/A1 Black Cat roundabout through to east of the A428/A1198 Caxton Gibbet roundabout. You will be based on site in St Neots, Cambridgeshire. There is flexibility for some hybrid working. This will be discussed in more detail at the interview.

What you'll be doing:

  • Reporting to the commercial manager, assist in management of the commercial and administration functions of the project.
  • Supervise and mentor quantity surveyors.
  • Provide support and guidance to commercial and operational staff at various stages of the project.
  • Undertake line management responsibilities as required for direct report staff ensuring each is effectively managed, has a current performance review and learning plan and are able to carry out the duties assigned to them.
  • Ensure compliance with contract administration requirements and Skanska standards and procedures.
  • Undertake and oversee subcontractor administration (NEC4 various options) - payment certification, liabilities and change management.
  • Deliver robust, accurate and timely commercial reporting.
  • Cost and value management for sections of work you are responsible for, including preparation of EVA, cost forecasting to completion, monthly cost/forecast reconciliation and cost/value reconciliation.
  • Work closely with the operations team to monitor and report on commercial performance.
  • Preparation of commercial documentation and agreements.
  • Costing and effective management of change, risks and opportunities.
  • Liaise with the site Client representatives on commercial issues, including the agreement of costs.
  • Control of project documentation.
  • Implement good record keeping.
  • Utilise site commercial and document IT systems (Oracle, CEMAR, ProjectWise, forecasting system).
  • Ad hoc duties as the job requires.

Who we're looking for:

  • Experienced managing quantity surveyor / senior quantity surveyor, with main contractor background working on large £200m+ civil engineering / infrastructure / highways projects.
  • Technically proficient to provide effective support and guidance to quantity surveyors and to ensure commercial governance.
  • Contractual, legal, commercial and construction knowledge and experience.
  • Experience with NEC forms of contract.
  • Able to provide guidance to the site team on contractual requirements, roles, responsibilities, required notices.
  • Proficient in subcontract administration.
  • Practical experience of managing NEC subcontracts in excess of £10m.
  • BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent in commercial related subject.
  • MRICS or CICES desirable.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to foster effective interaction between commercial and operational teams to deliver results.
  • Effective time management and working to fixed timeframes.
  • IT literate and embraces use and development of commercial digital systems and BIM.
