CRH is recruiting a highly capable Sustainability Specialist to work at the global level by joining the existing Sustainability Strategy Team in the Group Sustainability Department. Sustainability is a business imperative and opportunity for CRH. The Sustainability Strategy team’s aim is to support the development of a decarbonisation strategy with flexibility to enable CRH to monitor, foresee and adapt to shifts in the commercial and regulatory context to deliver sustained value-creating growth – growth that is based around the provision of sustainable solutions for our customers and exceeds the expectations of our stakeholders.

Reporting to the global Vice President - Decarbonisation the role location is flexible and can be based at, or connected to, one of the following CRH offices in Europe; Dublin or Amsterdam. Other locations will be considered for the right candidate.

As a professional in the climate action team, you will play a key role in advancing the critical sustainability strategy agenda at CRH. From an already sound basis in an environmental field, you will be encouraged to develop your skills, the capability of CRH and support CRH’s ability to create value from sustainable building material solutions.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Co-ordination and management: Coordinating projects and activities related to CRH’s sustainability framework and decarbonisation initiatives involving internal and external stakeholders.
  • Intelligence: Monitoring and coordinating key external information relating to sustainability reports, decarbonisation roadmaps, initiatives and global partnerships.
  • Engagement: Forming, building and coordinating engagement with external organisations and stakeholders.
  • Synthesis of complex information: Researching, collating, summarising and assessing the implications of information and data. Preparing reports, analysis, presentations and briefings for senior business leaders.
  • Support and advice: Support the climate action leaders and the wider business. Provide advice and assistance on decarbonisation and sustainability topics to further CRH’s sustainability ambitions.
  • Contributing to action: Active engagement with internal and external stakeholders as directed by VP – Decarbonisation.
  • Identifying, understanding and communicating: Using your sustainability experience and knowledge you will identify opportunities and learnings to share with your team and colleagues.

Key competencies and relevant experience

  • Well organised: You will need to be an organised and systemic operator in all aspects of your work. You should have the flexibility to adapt, learn and develop together with our evolving sustainability agenda.
  • Intelligent thinker: You will be encouraged to think rationally and strategically to bring new solutions to the business.
  • Highly literate: As a clear and concise communicator it is expected that you will be able to convey complex subjects in understandable language. Fluency in English, both written and oral communication are essential attributes.
  • Numerically strong: Highly numerate, with an analytical mindset. Ability to gather and process large amounts of information and data, identify patterns and trends, draw conclusions and to present findings concisely to a range of stakeholders.
  • Competent communicator: Presenting results, reports and analysis is a key competency, and you will be proficient at getting your points across to a wide audience.
  • Proactive work ethic: You should be a self-motivated individual, able to work both in a team and independently. You need to be a self-starter in all aspects of your work.
  • Team player: The global sustainability team is a highly knowledgeable, capable and geographically spread group. You need to be an all-round team player, making your work count as part of the team goals. You should have a willingness to travel internationally from time to time depending on task needs.
  • Influential networker: The department has many internal and external stakeholders that requires you to build and sustain professional and effective relationships. You should have proven interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Academically grounded: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in environment, sustainability, engineering, science, or other related subject. Relevant postgraduate qualifications are a bonus.
  • Experienced: Minimum 4-5 years of experience working in a similar role. Experience in the building materials, minerals or construction industry is an added advantage.
  • IT literate: Good system capabilities and excellent knowledge of Office 365 programs.
