You will be part of a strong and supportive team of 15 consultants committed to excellence, working together to meet the growing healthcare needs of our regional population. You will have an excellent opportunity to engage in research and development to shape the future of Geriatric Medicine. To be eligible, you will have RCP membership or equivalent experience and training, be fully registered with the GMC with a license to practice and be on the specialist registration in Geriatric Medicine or within 6 months of CCT for Geriatric Medicine or related specialties.

Main duties of the job:

  • Service Development: Help maintain and develop Medicine for Older People services to the highest standards.
  • Collaborative Care: Work alongside multidisciplinary colleagues to deliver high-quality care in both community and inpatient settings.
  • Teaching & Training: Support the teaching and training of junior staff, medical students, nurses, and allied health professionals.
  • Clinical Governance: Actively participate in departmental and Trust-wide Clinical Governance, Audit, and Quality Improvement initiatives.
  • Professional Development: Participate in Continuing Medical Education (CME) activities and maintain a commitment to revalidation.

Person Specification:

  • Qualifications
  • Essential: MB ChB/MBBS or equivalent, MRCP, CCT in Geriatric medicine or equivalent (CESR or European Community rights) or within 6 months of receipt of CCT at time of interview or on the Specialist Register.
  • Desirable: CCT in GIM (general internal medicine) or equivalent or within 6 months of receipt of CCT at time of interview or on the Specialist Register is desirable but not essential.
  • MEDICAL KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
    • Essential: Extensive training and experience in General Internal Medicine as well as Geriatric Medicine.
    • Desirable: Evidence of ability to pursue independent research.
  • COMMUNICATIONS
    • Essential: Ability to communicate with other members/grades of staff, patients, families and General Practitioners. Commitment to multidisciplinary work.
    • Desirable: Specific training in communications skills, teaching etc.
  • Planning
    • Essential: Evidence of involvement in service developments/planning.
    • Desirable: Evidence of successful implementation of new working patterns/methods.
  • Management
    • Essential: Knowledge of corporate structure of NHS Trusts, the NHS plan and clinical governance.
    • Desirable: Evidence of specific training in management (e.g. courses, practical experience).
  • OTHER REQUIREMENTS
    • Essential: Full Registration and license to practice with the GMC. Successful health screening. Demonstrates honesty, commitment and integrity.
    • Desirable: Member of Medical Defence Organisation.
