About the role:
Reporting to the Head of Buy-to-Let Underwriting, this role involves assessing and approving new BTL lending proposals in line with company lending policies. You will be responsible for evaluating risk, ensuring loans are suitable and fit for purpose, and clearly communicating lending decisions to all relevant stakeholders. In this fast-paced and dynamic environment, you will manage a pipeline of cases, making informed underwriting decisions while adhering to internal policies. For cases outside of mandate or policy, you will present lending rationales to the Credit Committee. You will collaborate closely with Case Managers, BDMs, and Completion Managers, overseeing applications from initial enquiry through to completion.
Responsibilities:
- Underwrite new lending proposals in line with policy, documenting and seeking approval for exceptions.
- Provide clear, concise lending recommendations for proposals outside mandate parameters.
- Present Credit Papers for high-value transactions to the Credit Committee.
- Participate in daily deal committees.
- Assess and evaluate valuation reports.
- Communicate underwriting requirements and decisions effectively to intermediaries.
- Collaborate with Case and Completions Managers to ensure understanding of underwriting conditions.
Experience required:
- Minimum 2 years in a mortgage underwriting role
- Held a sole signatory mandate of £500k+
- Experience of presenting proposals to senior signatories
- Strong analytical skills with ability to articulate clear lending rationales and recommendations
- Confident in own decision-making abilities
- Pragmatic approach to lending
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Highly numerate
