Connecting Cultural Expression and Social Change

Asian Arts Initiative (AAI) isn’t just an arts organization—it is a powerhouse for creativity, community, and cultural transformation. Recognized nationally and rooted in Philadelphia’s dynamic arts scene, AAI is where storytelling meets social change. From performances to exhibitions and artist residencies, AAI provides spaces for intercultural artists’ voices and cross-cultural connections.

AAI is seeking a visionary Executive Director (ED) to lead the organization into a new chapter of artistic and social justice innovation. This role offers an opportunity to shape the future of a community-driven arts hub.

Who AAI Is

Founded in 1993 to address racial tensions and uplift underrepresented voices, AAI builds bridges between diverse communities through the arts. Its core values include the inherent creativity of all people, open-mindedness for cross-cultural exploration, community-mindedness, and a belief in art as a tool for social change. AAI is committed to equity, access, and nurturing Asian American leadership while welcoming allies from all backgrounds.

The vibrant arts space in Philadelphia’s Chinatown North features galleries, a theater, event spaces, and artist studios. Through youth workshops, residencies, and exhibitions, AAI fosters culture, activism, and storytelling to shape a more just and inclusive future.

What AAI Does

AAI serves as a sanctuary for artists, community groups, and conversations. Visitors can experience visual arts, music, literature, film, and performance art. The organization’s youth programs promote mentorship, creativity, and leadership. AAI also presents public art, community events, and collaborates with politicians and organizations to strengthen community through art.

Why AAI?

More than an arts organization, AAI is a movement. Under leaders like Anne Ishii (2018–2024) and Interim Director Dave Kyu, AAI has grown into a financially stable, innovative, and welcoming institution with an annual budget of over $2M and strong reserves. Its dedicated team of 19 values humanity, equity, and creative risk-taking.

This is an opportunity to be part of something bold—whether as an artist, activist, or leader ready to create momentum. AAI turns vision into action.
