We are a leading multi-disciplinary construction contractor with an annual turnover of ~£75m, delivering high-quality projects across various sectors. As we continue to grow, we are seeking a talented and experienced Commercial Manager with a Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) bias to join our dynamic team. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with strong commercial acumen and M&E expertise to play a key role in driving the success of our projects.
The M&E Commercial Manager will oversee the financial and contractual management of our mechanical and electrical packages across two distinct Mechanical & Electrical Services Delivery Departments, ensuring the successful delivery of projects within budget and on time. Working closely with project teams, clients, and suppliers, you will lead commercial strategies, manage risk, and ensure that all commercial activities align with company objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the commercial management of M&E projects from tender stage through to final account.
- Oversee cost control, procurement, and subcontractor management for M&E packages.
- Prepare, review, and negotiate contracts, ensuring compliance with legal and commercial frameworks.
- Provide accurate and timely cost reporting and forecasting.
- Identify and mitigate commercial risks, ensuring projects are delivered within financial targets.
- Work collaboratively with project managers, design teams, and other stakeholders to ensure effective project delivery.
- Manage variations, claims, and any commercial disputes.
- Develop strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to drive value and efficiency.
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience in a Commercial Manager role, ideally within the construction industry.
- Strong Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) experience and knowledge.
- Demonstrable track record of managing M&E packages on large-scale construction projects.
- In-depth understanding of construction contracts (e.g., NEC, JCT) and legal principles.
- Excellent financial and commercial acumen with experience in cost management, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Strong negotiation skills with the ability to manage contract disputes and claims.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Relevant qualifications in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field (RICS or similar accreditation is desirable).
