Polytec are looking for a Physicist to work on new materials development, to understand their performance through experimentation, applying theoretical principles and testing new hypotheses.
Responsibilities:
- Understanding and developing new materials, testing and evaluating results, developing new hypotheses and making recommendations for improvements
- Developing processes for material deposition to enable material testing and optimising performance
- Recommending and working with external organisations to gain access to facilities, equipment & experts to supplement internal capabilities
- Working safely within the laboratory, ensuring H&S standards are met, carrying out COSHH and risk assessments of processes.
Requirements:
- Physics or Electrical Engineering degree and a relevant PhD
- Strong understanding of the fundamentals of theories that govern material properties and an interest in materials development for example high thermal conductivity materials, semiconductor patterning materials and materials for decarbonisation of heating and cooling.
- Experience in modelling materials properties, acquiring experimental data on novel materials or devices and the development of new hypotheses for improving material properties.
- Appreciation of the commercial aspects of R&D
