As a growing organisation we are now seeking a Senior Regulatory Ecotoxicologist to join our dynamic team. This role provides the opportunity to work on conventional active substance and plant protection product registrations while also gaining valuable experience in biopesticide regulation, an area of increasing importance in sustainable agriculture. Location: We have offices in Edinburgh, Swansea (United Kingdom), and Lyon (France). We would be happy to accommodate you at any of our offices, or the position can be fully remote in the United Kingdom or France.
Key Responsibilities
- Regulatory Ecotoxicology: Provide high-level ecotoxicological consultancy for plant protection product (PPP) registrations under Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009 and UK regulations.
- Study Design & Data Interpretation: Advise clients on ecotoxicology testing strategies, liaise with contract research organisations (CROs), monitor studies, and critically evaluate study reports.
- Risk Assessments: Conduct ecotoxicological risk assessments for non-target organisms (aquatic species, birds, bees, earthworms, soil organisms) in compliance with EFSA and HSE guidance.
- Dossier Preparation & Submission: Prepare and review ecotoxicology sections of dossiers for active substances and plant protection products.
- Regulatory Strategy Development: Provide strategic regulatory advice on EU and UK regulatory requirements, including risk refinement strategies.
- Biopesticide Innovation: Work alongside industry experts to support biopesticide registrations, helping clients overcome regulatory hurdles for these innovative plant protection solutions.
- Advocacy & Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with regulatory authorities and participate in expert groups, workshops, and regulatory consultations.
- Project & Client Management: Lead client projects, ensuring high-quality, timely deliverables and maintaining strong client relationships.
Requirements
- Essential Qualifications & Experience: Degree in ecotoxicology, environmental sciences, biology, or a related field. Ideally 5+ years of regulatory ecotoxicology experience in industry, consultancy, or regulatory agencies, although allowances may be made for less experienced staff with the right potential. Strong working knowledge of Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009, EFSA guidance, and risk assessment methodologies for non-target species. Experience in ecotoxicological study design, data interpretation, and environmental risk assessment. Experience in dossier preparation for EU and UK plant protection product submissions. Strong technical writing and scientific communication skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and clients in a consultancy environment.
- Desirable Skills & Experience: Ability to perform higher-tier environmental risk assessments and propose risk mitigation measures. Experience with biopesticide registration (microbial pesticides, natural substances, pheromones). Knowledge of endocrine disruptor (ED) assessments, EFSA/ECHA guidance on EDs, and mode of action analysis. Familiarity with higher-tier ecotoxicology testing (mesocosms, field studies, probabilistic risk assessments). Experience engaging with regulatory authorities and representing clients in meetings.
