We are seeking a Housing Solutions Officer to join a leading local authority in Sheffield. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to be part of a busy and exciting Housing Solutions service. The primary focus is on handling homeless applications, progressing cases within a statutory framework, and providing comprehensive housing advice and support to households experiencing homelessness.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Interview clients and undertake housing need and homelessness assessments face-to-face within statutory and policy frameworks.
- Provide advice, ongoing support, and maintain client contact.
- Offer information on all available housing, support, and other related services.
- Assist clients in accessing specialist support services as required (e.g., advocacy services, tenancy support, equipment and adaptations, city-wide alarms).
- Produce and present reports, including making recommendations on any aspect of the Housing Solutions Service.
- Manage casework effectively and make appropriate decisions to prevent homelessness, hospital admissions, and delayed discharges from supported and institutional accommodation and care.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Good understanding of the housing needs of vulnerable people.
- Knowledge of housing legislation and other laws relevant to housing advice and homelessness; experience in homelessness assessments or advice work is desirable.
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage a busy workload.
- Experience in creating and maintaining positive working relationships with staff from various agencies.
- Strong customer service experience, including dealing with difficult customers.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Benefits:
- Competitive hourly rate of £15.48 PAYE
- Full-time hours, Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week between 9am-5.30pm.
- Office-based role in the city centre with some travel to other sites.
