Key accountabilities:
- Vehicle Maintenance: Carry out routine maintenance tasks, inspections, and repairs on heavy goods vehicles.
- Attending Breakdowns where necessary.
- Prep and present vehicles for annual test.
- Manage your own workload ensuring maximum vehicle uptime.
- Diagnostic Procedures: Diagnose, identify and troubleshoot mechanical issues on vehicle and body systems.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of repairs, services, and parts used in the maintenance database.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines during all maintenance procedures.
Areas of responsibility:
- Perform routine maintenance.
- Electrical and engine troubleshooting and diagnostics.
- Engine and transmission repairs.
- Perform incidental welding operations and other mechanical repair work as required.
- Perform inspections and test mechanical units.
- Diagnose faults and malfunctions.
- Adjust, repair and/or replace parts and components of transport systems.
- Provide training and advice to apprentices and co-workers as required.
- Ability to use power and hand tools related to motor vehicle service and repair.
- Be able to work shift work and extra hours as required to keep up with business demands.
Experience and Skills:
- Qualified Heavy Goods Vehicle Mechanic (HGV Mechanic).
- Minimum 3 years post apprenticeship experience in HGV maintenance and repair.
- High degree of product and technical knowledge.
- Strong diagnostics capabilities with good computer skills.
- Must be organized & self-motivated with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Motivated team player with a strong sense of commitment to the team.
- Ability to understand and carry out instructions via written, verbal, or diagram form.
- Knowledge of waste collection vehicles preferred.
