Monday – Friday 8am 5.30pm with flexibility required in busy periods.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Transport Planner to join a well-established family-run business.
- Managing deliveries and collections across the UK mainland. Typically, up to 500-600 drops (representing 500-600 tonnes) per week
- Current delivery fleet – 4 artics, 16 rigid HGVs, each with mounted fork truck, plus 3 delivery vans – Additional capacity may be hired in when needed
- Full time permanent staff of customer-facing drivers
- Office team of 4
- Expectation that the successful candidate will have experience and understanding in varied transport planning roles
Key Responsibilities
- To support the Transport Manager and team in the day to day running of the department, planning, and arranging loads to customers, as well as collections and other routine and ad hoc transport administration tasks required, and seeing the deliveries and collections through to completion.
- To constantly gain valuable experience in a variety of activities within the team to benefit the operation of the team and the effectiveness of the company.
- Success can be measured by clearing the requested work tasks daily and building resilience so the team continuing to perform during periods of peak workload.
Targets:
- Clear the deliveries and collections each week.
- Plan for loads to meet the promise dates we have committed to.
- Look after the demands of the other departments within the business to ensure they are given the delivery service they need to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Work with the Compliance and Transport Managers to make sure legal compliances are met with vehicles and drivers, meeting their training needs.
Key Tasks
Tasks will vary day to day depending on the demands of and resources available within the Transport team, but will include:
- Planning loads, working closely with the Transport Manager, Compliance Manager, and other departments within the business to provide the best delivery solutions.
- Administration relating to loads, drivers, and vehicles, to meet legal and FORS requirements. Plus, cover for the following: Invoicing of loads Advising loads to customers Reviewing new orders Arranging carrier deliveries. Assisting with other Transport administration duties, including other internal reporting requirements, and tasks requested by your manager to meet the companys legal and voluntary scheme requirements.
- Work with the relevant managers to maintain and develop quality procedures and systems.
- Ensuring that Company and Statutory Health and Safety, COSHH and Environmental requirements are met Ensuring that all IT / Business System operational and procedural guidelines are followed to ensure data integrity.
- Any other ad hoc tasks reasonably requested by your direct line managers or the directors, from time-to-time.
Full driving licence and own vehicle required (to get to work). Please note this is an office-based role at our head office in a rural location between Ashford and Canterbury.
Holding a Transport Manager CPC would be beneficial.
