As a Children and Young Person Support Worker, you are there to provide advice, assistance and support to young people. You will attend to their practical, physical and emotional needs, act as an appropriate role model, and work closely with them to enable them to address their difficulties and achieve their optimum potential. Working from the guidelines of the 1989 Children’s Act, National Minimum Standards, Every Child Matters, and any other relevant legislation.

As part of this role, you will:

  • Maintain a high quality of care and support which meets the physical, emotional, intellectual, social and cultural needs of children and young people within the care of Orwell Housing.
  • Provide a caring, supportive and nurturing environment in which children/young people can feel secure and free from harm.
  • Provide advice and support to the parent/carer.
  • Establish positive relationships with young people and always offer them unconditional and positive regard.
  • Help young people gain self-control by challenging unacceptable behaviour and rewarding acceptable, pro-social conduct.
  • Ensure each young person’s care plan is followed and amended as appropriate to reflect their changing needs.
  • Provide written reports for planning meetings, reviews or any other meetings as directed by the line manager.

  • Be able to deal with often difficult and complex situations.
  • Work alongside vulnerable customers.
  • Have support and safety planning experience.

Person Specification:

  • Level 3 qualification in Childcare, social work, youth work, counselling, or education.
  • Experience (paid or voluntary) of working with families and children - Essential.
  • 5 GCSE Maths and English (Grade 9-4 / A-C or equivalent) - Essential.
  • You will need to complete a Disclosure and Barring check - Essential.
  • A full driving licence is essential.
