Youth Support Co-ordinator in Leigh

Community Cadets are provided with a uniform free of charge and will receive ongoing rewards throughout the programme and on completion of projects, as well as building their own personal portfolio.

Working with Us

As a Youth Support Co-ordinator, you will report to the Founder/CEO of CIA, Pam Gilligan, and work alongside other members of staff to aid planning and delivery of appropriate content tailored to the Cadets, who will be learning new social skills whilst also learning about the community. You will adapt your delivery to meet the individual needs of the children on the programme.

This post is a 37.5-hour a week fixed-term contract, with a six-month probation period. A key requirement of the role is face-to-face delivery of our Community Cadets programme for two hours on Tuesday evenings at our headquarters in Leigh. The remaining 35.5 hours are for session planning, designing and delivering activities during daytime hours (some at alternative settings within the charity) and liaising with local schools.

AboutYou

• Experience of delivering formal or informal training or activities to young people.
• Experience of motivating young people who have low or unrealised aspirations.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to tailor your style to suit a variety of audiences.
• High levels of IT literacy, with a good knowledge of MS Office and remote working tools.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

• Support with the recruitment of young people onto the programme.
• Session planning designing activities that will engage and develop young people, as well as obtaining the necessary resources to support delivery.
• Lead the delivery of CIAs Community Cadets programme for children and young people.
• Act as a support and point of contact for young people enrolled on the programme to ensure they maximise their opportunities for growth and development.
• Work closely with stakeholders to ensure the programme runs smoothly, and that administrative duties are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
• Designing and delivering activities for other stakeholders during daytime hours.
• Liaising with local schools on behalf of the charity developing and maintaining strong relationships with pastoral managers.
• To provide a caring, supportive and nurturing environment in which young people can feel secure and free from harm.
• Establishing positive relationships with young people and always offering them unconditional and positive regard.
• Helping young people to gain self-control by challenging unacceptable behaviour and rewarding acceptable, pro-social conduct.
• Establishing relationships which young people perceive to be positive, warm and rewarding.
• Providing emotional support at times of difficulty or stress.
• Being ambitious for young people helping them to achieve their goals and optimise their potential.
• Keeping accurate records and providing written Quarterly reports as directed by the Founder/CEO of CIA.
• Empowering young people and facilitating their active involvement in decision-making about their lives and future.
• Encouraging the young person/people to develop links with the community, attend off-site activities and expand their personal social network.
• Maintaining confidentiality whilst also meeting the Sharing Information protocols in regard to safeguarding.

To Work as Part of a Team

• Being aware of the aims and objectives of CIA, and to work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve them.
• Actively contributing to the development of Community Cadets.
• Work within CIA to develop a community asset and capacity approach to the recruitment of children in establishing Community Cadets.
• Enabling partners and local communities/businesses to support the development of Community Cadets for young people to be active participants and residents in their community.
• Receiving and storing information to improve communication.
• Being willing to give and receive feedback on performance with colleagues and the Founder/CEO.
• Attending and contributing to regular supervision sessions.
• Being familiar with all policies and procedures and adhering to them.

Conditions

• Contracted to 37.5 hours per week inclusive of two hours of delivery on Tuesday evenings. (Flexibility may be required on evenings or very occasional weekends to support children to attend events or participate in activities.)
• Receiving training appropriate to the role and maintaining an up-to-date training profile (this will be provided by the support of Wigan Council).
• Responsibility for the health, safety and welfare of self, children and colleagues in accordance with the requirements of the organisational Safeguarding and Health & Safety Policies.
• This post requires the holder to have a clear Enhanced DBS at all times. Changes to personal circumstances which may affect this must be notified to the Founder/CEO immediately.
