Lister Mental Health Liaison Team provides a 24 hour, 7 days a week mental health service to all patients aged 18 and above referred by Lister Hospital, East & North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. The team has expertise in providing timely assessments, interfacing with various services and developing management plans for all referred patients in the Emergency Department and inpatient general wards. The service works at the interface of physical and mental health thereby jointly managing complex cases and supporting the acute trust and social care teams. There is a strong teaching ethos in the team that encourages collaborative care for mental health patients in a general hospital setting., Our conversations with service users, carers, staff, commissioners and the wider communities we serve have informed a simple but ambitious vision:

They will be expected to conduct autonomous and joint mental health assessments of referred patients aged 18 and above. This includes dementia/delirium presentations.

· They will attend the daily MDT discussion and demonstrate leadership at this forum in the absence of the consultant.

· They will provide a degree of supervision and teach junior doctors and medical students/PAs attached to the team.

· Ensure timely and contemporaneous records of patients, and adhere to the service KPIs.

· Contribute to service improvement by engaging in clinical governance activities.
