About the Role We are seeking a SQL Engineer to join our team in Manchester, supporting key business functions by managing data queries, optimising database performance, and ensuring smooth operations of SQL-based systems. You will be responsible for writing and reviewing SQL code within CI/CD pipelines, troubleshooting SQL-related issues, and providing support for BAU (Business as Usual) work. This role will require expertise in SQL Server, Azure, PowerShell, and Azure Functions Apps, as well as experience with SSIS and SSRS for troubleshooting. While experience with Microsoft Synapse and Fabric is beneficial, it is not essential. Key Responsibilities Write, optimise, and maintain SQL queries to support business operations. Review and validate SQL code within CI/CD pipelines, ensuring best practices and performance efficiency. Provide BAU support, handling day-to-day database-related queries and issue resolution. Troubleshoot and resolve SQL-related issues, particularly in SSIS and SSRS environments. Manage and optimize Azure SQL services, ensuring reliability and scalability. Support and maintain Azure Function Apps, integrating them within data workflows. Automate processes using PowerShell, improving operational efficiency. Work closely with development and business teams to ensure seamless data operations and system integration's. Monitor database performance, identifying bottlenecks and areas for optimisation. Ensure database security, compliance, and adherence to company policies. Skills & Experience Required ✔ SQL Server – Strong experience in developing, optimizing, and troubleshooting SQL queries. ✔ Azure – Experience working with Azure SQL, Azure Functions Apps, and cloud-based data solutions. ✔ PowerShell – Scripting expertise for automation and system integration. ✔ SSIS & SSRS – Hands-on experience in troubleshooting and maintaining SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS). ✔ CI/CD Pipelines – Knowledge of integrating SQL code within DevOps workflows. ✔ Database Performance Tuning – Experience in optimising queries and database structures. ✔ Problem-Solving & Analytically Thinking – Ability to troubleshoot issues effectively and improve database efficiency. Desirable Skills (Not Essential but Beneficial) ➕ Microsoft Synapse & Fabric – Experience with these technologies is an advantage but not required. ➕ ETL Development – Experience in building and maintaining ETL processes. ➕ Database Security & Compliance – Understanding of security best practices in database management.
