About the Role

As a Road Manager, you will lead the day-to-day and long-term maintenance of highway assets. You will oversee operatives, contractors, and key stakeholders to deliver maintenance projects efficiently, on time, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all highway maintenance and operations in line with DBFO contract requirements.
  • Oversee contractors and operatives, ensuring work is completed safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Develop and maintain an annual works program, ensuring effective asset management and timely intervention.
  • Manage budgets, track expenditures, and liaise with the commercial team for cost control.
  • Implement process improvements and innovative solutions for complex highway schemes.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, health & safety regulations, and environmental policies.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders, including TfL, local authorities, and third parties, to coordinate projects and resolve issues.
  • Oversee winter maintenance, street cleaning, and emergency response planning.
  • Supervise highways inspections, planned works, and utility coordination.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience in highways asset management, project management, and contractor supervision.
  • Strong leadership skills with a proven track record of managing teams and fostering professional growth.
  • Commercial acumen, with experience managing budgets, contracts (preferably NEC), and procurement.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills to liaise with local authorities and contractors.
  • Technical knowledge of highway specifications, health & safety regulations, and asset management systems.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor\’s degree (or equivalent) in engineering or a related field (Desirable)
  • NRSWA Supervisor & SMSTS or equivalent (Desirable)
  • Valid UK Driving Licence (Essential)
