Job Description

Summary

WE ARE HIRING!

Data Services is part of the Central Services of the Church of England, providing statistical information, analysis, research and consultancy. The team works collaboratively with the National Church Institutions (NCIs), dioceses and parishes collecting and assembling data to support the Church's missional, pastoral and operational activities through high-quality information and analysis. This is used locally, at parish, diocesan and national levels, involving the Team in a wide range of customer contacts and interfaces.
In the context of the Church of England's Transforming Effectiveness Programme, the Data Services Team will work to promote data collection that is economic, efficient and effective, producing high-quality services and deliverables geared to a varied range of customer needs. Within the Team, the Data and Analysis unit will lead in consolidating core deliverables and establishing best practices for research and analysis, acting as the professional centre of excellence to inform and assist operational and development work within the Team. Within Data Services, the Data Operations Team comprises a number of operational teams, one of which is the Mapping and Spatial Data Team.
What you'll be doing
As GIS and Spatial Data Officer, you will assist with operational and development work within the team and help to shape our services for the future, with the assistance and support of our colleagues and a user/steering group of stakeholders. The initial focus of this role will be in the rollout of our new service provision, including embedding new mapping and spatial data sharing processes with the diocese, as well as delivery of centralised mapping provision.
Key role requirements
  • The post holder is expected to work from the Church House 1-2 days per week.

Please note: This role is also suited for candidates who choose to work from home. If you opt to be a homeworker, you are responsible for your travel expenses to your primary/base location, as the role requires you to attend infrequent face-to-face meetings 1-2 days per month.

To be successful in this role, you will need to be/have:
  • Knowledge of GIS applications, in particular ArcGIS Pro.
  • Experience in creating engaging data visualisations in charts, graphs, maps etc.
  • Knowledge of publicly available spatial datasets and experience in manipulating and visualising data.
  • The ability to train, mentor and support GIS users of varying abilities, as well as communicate GIS and spatial data concepts to non-specialist audiences.

Your Salary
  • A salary of £40,572 per annum, plus age-related pension contributions between 8-15% of salary. We will also match any pension contributions you make up to an additional 3% of your salary.
