Post: Regional Support Official

Job Ref: RSO2

Salary: £33,751 per annum (£67,503 per annum, pro rata including London Allowance)

Hours: 17.5 per week (35 per week pro rata)

Contract: Fixed term to 1 February 2026

Location: NW1 7LH (Travel across the region)

About Our Client:

Our client represents over 120,000 academics, lecturers, trainers, instructors, researchers, managers, administrators, computer staff, librarians and postgraduates in universities, colleges, prisons, adult education and training organisations across the UK.  They also have members in the private sector, for example in private training agencies and language schools, as well as members working on a freelance basis. Students training to teach in post-school education also belong to this trade union.

Regional Support Official – About the role:

Our client is seeking a Regional Support Official to join the Eastern and Home Counties team on a fixed term/part time (0.5 FTE) basis. In this exciting role, reporting to the Regional Official, Eastern and Home Counties Region, your main duties will be: 

– Assisting with securing and maintaining recognition of the trade unions in the designated area

– Conducting and supporting negotiations with employing institutions in accordance with nationally and locally agreed bargaining objectives

– Contributing to the organisation and effective delivery of regional training in accordance with the national training programme

– Engaging in and organising regional and local campaigning activities in accordance with national/regional campaigning objectives

– Deputising for the Regional Official as necessary

Regional Support Official – You:

– GCSEs (including Maths & English) or equivalent

– Previous experience in a similar working environment, ideally within a trade union or not-for-profit organisation

-Good knowledge of the post-compulsory education sector

– Working knowledge of employment law

– Experience in trade union organising

-Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

– Ability to advocate for members and represent individuals in disciplinary and grievance cases.

– Willingness to travel across the region as required
