Job Description

The opportunity

We’re excited to announce a great opportunity to join our technical team at Wimbledon College of Arts (WCA), UAL (University of the Arts London) and make a valuable contribution to our exceptional teaching and learning facilities.

WCA provides a rich, visionary and state-of-the-art environment where performers, designers and creative technologists can collaborate and explore performance in all its guises, whilst bringing to life extraordinary work.

In response to our growing number of students and their ambitions, we’re expanding our technical department. We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to appoint a Specialist Technician that can bring to Wimbledon advanced knowledge and extensive professional experience, whilst equipped with enthusiastic, reassuring and inclusive soft skills indispensable to support our students’ journey.

As a Specialist Technician on the BA Art Direction and Visual Effects course (currently known as Production Arts for Screen), you’ll be responsible for providing technical expertise, guidance and advice in design and digital production skills aimed at creating the visual identity of film, television, animation and computer games.

Technicians are an integral part of the realisation of students’ work: their knowledge and experience of industry not only enables students to realise their most professional standard of work here at WCA, but it also prepares them for a smooth transition into their working life.

About you

We’re seeking a versatile and experienced digital design specialist with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Art, Design or Performance or relevant subject area and/or significant experience in a similar technical role, either in industry or education or ideally both.

It is desirable for you to have experience in delivering technical workshops encompassing digital design from inception through to realisation. Proficiency in digital 3D software packages and visualisation software/hardware is crucial. A good working knowledge in IT processes and solutions aimed at managing PCs within an IT network is highly desirable. Also highly desirable is knowledge and experience of working with VR, Motion Capture and Green Screen technologies. A willingness to upskill is essential. You should possess excellent creative abilities in interpreting students’ ideas and suggesting solutions for their realisation, as well as demonstrating competence in concept development for Animation, VFX or Games Design.

Additionally, you’ll possess effective and adaptable communication skills, a good working knowledge of IT packages and the ability to manage technical resources efficiently.

Your professional competence, guidance, and advice will play an instrumental role in supporting students with their projects. It’s vital that you remain up-to-date with digital technology, whilst introducing innovative ideas and workshops to enrich the overall student journey.

By bringing your technical expertise, passion for teaching and learning and collaborative mindset to the role, you’ll contribute to creating a safe, accessible and enriching environment for students at WCA, ensuring their journey with us is second to none.
