Our Special Schools are a growing chain of small independent schools catering for young people with special educational needs. Our Bexley Special School is Ofsted registered for 40 learners and as such class sizes are small, ranging from one-to-one teaching to classes of up to 6 learners. The school’s vision is to empower success through holistic and individualised learning. To achieve this, we work with learners from primary to post-16 and ensure that their needs are met and that each individual is provided a wide range of learning opportunities.
We care for the well-being of our learners and our staff team. As such, all employees are provided with a BUPA Cash Plan scheme, annual well-being initiatives and termly perks. We also provide annual appraisals for all staff and actively encourage a range of CPD to help progress and create career opportunities.
We are looking for a SEND Teacher or somebody with teaching experience who has enthusiasm and passion for working with this challenging area of special educational needs. The SEND Teacher will actively promote the curriculum policy by teaching and assisting others to plan, deliver and assess a range of subjects. The SEND Teacher will teach SEN Learners with others to ensure they are achieving their full potential.
SEND Teacher – Education and Qualifications
- Qualified Teacher Status or Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (E)
- To have achieved a qualification in English / literacy and mathematics / numeracy equivalent to at least a level 2 on the National Qualifications Framework. (E)
- Trained in Nurture Group intervention (for Primary teacher only)
- Qualifications related to special educational needs and disabilities or challenging behaviour (D)
- Educated to degree level (E)
SEND Teacher – Experience
- Relevant experience of addressing social exclusion, including but not limited to; youth work, alternative education provisions, community development, dealing with vulnerable people and those with complex needs. (E)
- Experience of working with clear guidelines, procedures and adhering to child protection (E)
- Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with a variety of colleagues across directorates and other agencies (E)
- Understanding of working with people with challenging behaviour / complex needs / disabilities. (E)
- Ability to quickly establish relationships with young people, vulnerable people and families with complex needs. (E)
- Experience of managing a team or co-ordinating volunteers (D)
