About the role
As an Estimator, you will play a pivotal role within our Estimating team, collaborating closely with our Operations, Commercial, and Procurement teams to develop precise, competitive, and cost-effective estimates and budgets for our construction and engineering projects across West, East and Central Scotland. This position is based at our Head Office in Dalry.
Key roles and responsibilities include;
- Prepares cost estimates on proposals, projects and studies and ensures that the content of the estimate is complete, accurate and meets the requirements of the estimate or project plan.
- Plan, coordinate, review, verify and analyse all aspects of estimates and estimate presentation.
- Helps in the maintenance of the Company estimating database. Coordinate and review the variable estimating factors in each area with Engineering Operations, Procurement and Construction.
- Provides technical advice and assistance to the team in the preparation of all levels of estimates.
- Perform quantity take-offs and cost analysis.
- Solicit and review subcontractor and supplier quotations to ensure accurate pricing.
- Prepare and present detailed estimate reports to senior management.
- Identify potential risks and opportunities within project estimates.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, materials, and construction methods.
- Utilise estimating software and tools to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
- The preparation of bid proposals and tender submissions.
- Review and evaluate project budgets and schedules to ensure alignment with estimates.

Your Skills and Experience
This role is ideally suited to a Estimator who has strong commercial acumen and a track record in main contracting and affordable housing projects.
The ideal candidate will be/have;
- Strong knowledge and experience within a relevant role in the construction industry.
- IT literate with excellent Excel knowledge.
- Able to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Able to work under your initiative as well as being part of the wider team is essential.
- Effective time management and ability to meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong mathematical skills and analytical skills
- Ability to interpret and understand construction plans, specifications, and contracts
- Proficient in Estimating software tools (e.g., Conquest Estimating and Conquest onscreen take off)
- Knowledge of general trades and subcontractors is a necessity.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy is a key requirement of this role.
- Clear and effective communicator who can clarify and summarise to ensure positive outcomes are achieved.
- Degree qualified or equivalent, demonstrable and relevant industry experience.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective negotiation skills.
- Budget management skills.
- Hold a current and valid UK Driving licence.
