Senior Environmental Consultant (Operations and Compliance) :
Home based, with office options available, with occasional travel required across the East England and London to support project delivery.
We're looking for an experienced, forward thinking and dedicated Senior Environmental Consultant to oversee projects resulting in tangible benefits to the environment.
The Senior Environmental Consultant will be involved in leading and/or providing support for environmental land management operations and compliance delivery of companywide projects. The role will include the preparation of Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMP's) for design and build projects, working with the wider team to secure consents and environmental permits where needed, and to undertake inspections and audits. The role will also include the support to 2 main assigned projects to ensure that goals and objectives are accomplished within a prescribed time frame and budget. The role will require working with a number of high-profile clients and provide both internal and external advice on environmental management.
This position will be responsible for working on project sites, as well as completing duties in the office/home. The role will initially be working closely with the Sustainability Manager with a view to growing a team of environmental services. The role will play a key part in reporting and
The post holder will be a key part a multi-discipline delivery team, working closely with Operation and Project Managers, and technical consultants across the Group, delivering the following services:
- Environmental Land Management.
- Waste compliance advice and guidance
- Flood risk assessments and environmental impact reports
- Design and build of Distribution Network Operator (DNO) schemes.
- Project life cycle support for multi-year pipeline projects
- Advising on and scoping all works; that we manage delivery all the way through to completion, including all aspects of health and safety.
- Review and produce EMS documents
- Report checking and compliance checks of subcontractor works
Key duties and responsibilities:
- Supporting the ELM Operations Manager and Sustainability Manager across current contracts and to build the ELM service package.
- Overseeing, writing, pooling content and project management for completing and updating CEMPs across design and build contracts.
- Overseeing and project managing environmental consents (SSSI assents, consents, FRAPs, and other environmental permits)
- Providing support and/or taking a lead on operations and project management across existing projects.
- Management and supervision of the sub-contractors, and the associated compliance with internal and external requirements for delivery (environmental compliance, health and safety, certification, training).
- Assisting in Environmental Land Management technical advice and support to enable us to meet the technical and delivery requirements of its clients. This requires a good knowledge and experience of practical delivery of land management activities.
- Produce and quality control reports to ensure high quality delivery of content to the client.
- Contract compliance and auditing of performance.
Skills and Experience required (Essential and Desirable):
- Be suitably qualified in a relevant environmentally based discipline
- Have a minimum of 5 years' experience for an Environmental Manager or Senior Environmental Advisor
- Substantial experience of working within the environmental/land management consultancy sector
- Experience and knowledge of land-based industries (Land Management, Construction, Forestry, Ecology and Landscape)
- Experience of reviewing contamination reports, waste data and compliance with UK legislation
- Experience, knowledge, and practical application of environmental compliance, including consents, assents, audits and production of Construction Environmental Management Plans
- Fully conversant in Scottish and/ or UK consenting and environmental legislation
- Experience of project management of works delivering land management and habitat and estate infrastructure design, creation and maintenance.
- Ability to prioritise works, amongst a demanding delivery schedule
- Accurate information gathering and record keeping.
- Understanding of health and safety management and its application in the context of construction and rural land management.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships internally, and with clients and stakeholders.
- Client focused approach to delivery
- Practical understanding of Habitat creation, maintenance and restoration. Practical understanding of ecology, ecological mitigation and wildlife legislation
Qualifications required
- A degree or HND in an Environmental/Construction related discipline
- IOSH Managing Safely
- NEBOSH
- SMSTS/SSSTS
- Member (or working toward membership) of a relevant professional body covering environmental and/or land management work areas (IEMA, CIEM etc)
- CSCS card; (Gold/Black)
- Full driving licence
