About the Role
Round-Peg Solutions is exclusively partnered with CoolKit, the UK’s leading specialist in temperature-controlled vehicle conversions, to recruit a Technical Design Manager. This is a key leadership role within the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), responsible for overseeing end-to-end vehicle conversion design, driving new product development, and ensuring best-in-class manufacturing efficiency.
You will implement Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles, modularize designs, and establish an effective design review process to improve quality, reduce factory costs, and enhance scalability.
Key Responsibilities of Technical Design Manager:
- Lead and develop the Technical & Design function to optimize design efficiency and product quality.
- Oversee design-to-build processes, ensuring seamless transition from concept to manufacturing.
- Drive modular design strategies to streamline production and enhance flexibility.
- Implement a robust design review process for continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with Sales, Operations, and Quality to align design with customer and manufacturing needs.
- Ensure compliance with Type Approval (Conformity of Production) requirements.
- Lead continuous improvement (CI) and Lean initiatives to optimize production efficiency.
Required Experience & Skills of Technical Design Manager:
- Degree in Engineering (or equivalent).
- 5+ years in a technical leadership or design management role.
- Strong background in automotive, manufacturing, or vehicle conversion.
- Experience in Design for Manufacture (DFM) & modular design principles.
- Proven track record in leading design teams and review processes.
- Familiarity with automotive electrics & refrigeration systems (desirable).
