This KTP project is a partnership between The University of Aberdeen and Resolute Energy Solutions, Stonehaven. We are seeking a Cement Research and Development Engineer (KTP Associate).

This 30-month fixed term post is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and experienced graduate or researcher in Civil, Structural, Materials or Mechanical Engineering or a strongly related field, to fast track their career development as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate.

Please note the start date is flexible and will be agreed with the successful applicant.

Qualifications

Minimum of 2.1 Honours degree in Civil, Structural, Materials or Mechanical Engineering. Postgraduate qualification in Structural, Civil, or Materials Engineering is desirable, reflecting the technical complexity and need for expertise in materials and structural analysis.

Skills and Knowledge

  1. Finite Element Modelling and numerical analysis using software like Abaqus.
  2. Experimental test design for materials and structural properties.
  3. Project and people management to coordinate resources and timelines.
  4. Resource planning, ensuring availability of materials for testing.
  5. Data analysis and reporting, including the ability to produce SOPs and technical documentation.
  6. Collaboration and communication, crucial for engaging the company’s team, customers, and stakeholders.
  7. Training delivery, enabling knowledge transfer and team engagement.
  8. Understanding of cementing and polymer chemistry.

Research Responsibilities

  1. Perform extensive technical literature review.
  2. Develop experimental testing protocols for materials and structural properties in accordance with the requirements of relevant design codes.
  3. Undertake research on the specified project, working with academics and company staff in the project research team to achieve specified goals and outcomes.
  4. To further develop self-healing cement-based functional materials with a level of flexibility for various applications including well abandonment and carbon capture.
  5. The project will deliver new products and embed innovative methodologies and key skills for improving the long-term sealing ability of solid barriers using flexible, expanding polymers.

About the Business

Resolute Energy Solutions design and execute alternative barrier methods for onshore and offshore applications, to stop emissions from leaking from wells to surface.
