Our client Scottish Power are seeking a number of Environmental Advisors for minimum 12 month contract roles based at Cambuslang / Sites / working hybrid.

Purpose

In this role of Environmental Advisor, you will support the SP Transmission Environmental Manager, Environmental Department and Engineering and Construction staff to deliver, monitor and continually improve the company’s Environmental Management Systems and practices to maintain ISO 14001 accreditation. With your environmental specialist knowledge, you will provide advice to internal and external parties for the engineering and construction of energy related projects.

Responsibilities

  1. Comply with internal Environmental Management System to preserve ISO 14001 accreditation.
  2. Provide support and advice to project team prior and throughout construction period to achieve compliance with the statutory environmental requirements.
  3. Sustain and improve Environmental Procedures to identify and respond to emerging environmental legislation relevant to construction activities.
  4. Provide proactive, specialist guidance and advice regarding environmental controls, constraints and legislation specific to the project.
  5. Develop and implement new methods, techniques and practices to improve environmental performance.
  6. Develop an Environmental Management Plan for the project ensuring that the findings of the surveys and any licences are included.
  7. Liaise directly with regulators/ stakeholders (such as, but not limited to: Nature Scot) throughout the project.
  8. Manage environmental monitoring and inspection programs to effectively document operational performance, compliance and prepare timely reports required for both internal and external distribution.
  9. Support the investigation and reporting of environmental incidents.
  10. Develop and deliver environmental training and awareness initiatives.
  11. Review Contractors’ environmental documentation with particular emphasis on environmental regulations and requirements.

Skills & Requirements

We are looking for individuals who have proven experience of environmental management, including working knowledge of ISO 14001, environmental auditing, and dealing with the environmental regulator, ideally within a commercially focused utility, service or construction business. You will also have experience, knowledge and good understanding of ecological and hydrological aspects on construction sites, along with the following:

  1. Educated to a degree level in a relevant environmental discipline is essential.
  2. In-depth knowledge of current and developing environmental legislation is essential.
  3. Strong influencing and consulting/ communication skills.
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a confident.
  5. Sound planning and analysis skills – anticipate problems and plan solutions.
  6. Experience of collaboration with contractors.
  7. Membership of Professional body relevant to this role is desirable.
  8. Environmental Auditing qualification is desirable.

To be successful in a role you will need to demonstrate as minimum:

  1. 3+ years’ experience in on site Environmental Role within an engineering or construction related environment.
  2. Computer literacy & working knowledge of Microsoft Packages.
  3. Degree in an environmental discipline.
  4. In-depth knowledge of current and developing environmental legislation.
  5. Good understanding of ecological and hydrological aspects on construction sites.
  6. CSCS card or Safety Passport.
  7. Current valid driving licence.
