Senior Support and Integration Engineer – Electrical Systems

Description

The Senior Support and Integration Engineer role has overall responsibility for identification and support of electrical systems issues resolution identified during all stages of the development lifecycle from rigs and labcars through to in-market tests of production level vehicles and everything in between. This includes vehicle fault analysis through use of diagnostic toolsets, schematics and specifications, software flashing and validation, submission and updating of issues and concerns via cloud-based issues management system and verification and validation of solutions on rig or vehicles. This engineer will also be the first point of contact for the electrical team where issues are seen elsewhere in the business and is responsible for the generation of test reports required by stakeholders at different seniority levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • First on-the-scene support and primary technical escalation point for identifying and resolving complex electrical systems issues throughout the development lifecycle, from rig testing to in-market production vehicles.
  • Lead cross functional efforts with the Electrical and other function groups, Tier 1 suppliers and our technical partners, to quickly and efficiently support issues investigation and resolution. Organize and support software and hardware update activities both in UK and overseas.
  • Lead the analysis of vehicle faults using diagnostic software toolsets, schematics, and specifications to identify and resolve issues in both vehicle and lab-car environments.
  • Submit and update fault reports via a cloud-based issue management system, raising concern reports for build-related system issues as necessary. Ensure issues logged by the team meet quality standards allowing issues to be clearly understood and managed to resolution.
  • Provide build support and maintenance for test vehicles, lab car and other test rigs e.g. infotainment, certification support rigs, fault injection, etc. Generate and maintain related procedures and guidelines.
  • Plan, organize and support additional verification and validation activities including in-market testing, certification activities planning and support (EMC testing, etc.), telematics, and systems calibration. Generation of test plans and reports.
  • Provide technical support to colleagues in the Workshop and Vehicle Development teams.
  • Assist with software verification and validation, ensuring adequate documentation and report generation.
  • Contribute to the creation, implementation and maintenance of processes and procedures.
  • Support, mentor and guide junior members of the team.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Extensive experience working as an expert electrical systems engineer within an automotive workshop or automotive OEM/Tier 1 environment, having participated in the delivery of multiple vehicle programs.
  • Ability to understand both basic system features and functions through to distributed functionality and complex electrical content. Experience deriving tests and fault finding from technical documentation, including architectural and electrical diagrams, functional description and system requirements.
  • Understanding vehicle electrical networks and systems (CAN, LIN and discrete signalling). Experience with network analysis and calibration tools, CANalyzer, INCA, etc.
  • Practical experience of using laptop-based vehicle diagnostic tools, i.e. Vector products, IPEtronik, PEAK, as well as Multimeters and Oscilloscopes.
  • Must be able to work on their own initiative, prioritize their workload in conjunction with other team members and departments, and effectively organize the work of team members while contributing as part of the wider team.
  • Flexible, enthusiastic and self-motivated with good communication skills.
  • Driver’s License is essential.
  • Must enjoy working under pressure and be flexible with regards to working location and travel.
  • Clear and effective communication skills with internal and external clients.
  • Must be a team player and have a positive mentality when it comes to being part of a team and the benefits of working as a group.
