Morson Talent currently have a new position for a Senior Subcontract Manager to join our prestigious Aerospace client based in Luton. This role is a contract until September 2025.
The role of a Subcontract Manager at the client offers a wide variety of experiences and is both exciting and challenging in its nature. This role in particular represents a unique opportunity for a high calibre candidate to thrive and grow within the Combat Air sector.
This role will involve actively working in a matrix organisation structure supporting a variety of complex assignments for both Production and Development Integrated Project Teams (IPT’s) in the Combat Air sector. The focus for this role will be the management of high value and high-risk sub-contract commitments for an emerging requirement that requires strategic thinking to position a value chain, supply will be both tangible and intangible in their nature.
The IPTs demand associated with Production & Development continues to grow within the Combat Air Sector and requires any individual successfully appointed able to translate complex, early concept customer requirements and ensure that these are carefully flowed down to subcontractors ensuring back-to-back campaigns and project execution. The ability to build, foster and create value with strategic partners and suppliers is essential.
This role will require a demonstrated ability to manage internal and external relationships and will require experience of working cross-functionally in a matrix organisation, in order to influence a breadth of business decisions throughout the Life Cycle Management (LCM) framework. The individual will have strong and effective communication skills, with the ability to develop and nurture internal customer relationships, promote customer intimacy and team working.
The individual will need to demonstrate successful subcontract management by developing and managing robust contracts which mitigate commercial risk and address lifecycle factors whilst fostering and maintaining supplier relationships.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  1. Lead the delivery of sub-contract management activities and other procurement related services which may be required by the business.
  2. Lead relationships with Strategic client suppliers, holding Supplier Business Reviews, ensuring performance management, risks and impacts.
  3. Provide leadership and governance in business winning and programme delivery with minimum supervision.
  4. Accountable for the Procurement activities within the Procurement & Development IPTs.
  5. Negotiate complex agreements and risk/reward mechanisms for business case models.
  6. Translate customer / project requirements into commercial documents, particularly pertaining to the design, development and production of bespoke complex electronic systems and sub-systems.
  7. Understand mechanisms of mitigating risk associated with entering into commercial agreements.
  8. Develop and negotiate robust contracts for services, intangible and tangible deliverables.
  9. Work in collaboration with cross functional stakeholders to ensure the flow down of appropriate terms and conditions from customer contracts to enable compliance with contractual obligations and mitigate commercial / contractual risks.
  10. Promote customer intimacy in both internal and external relationships.
  11. Focal point for project and suppliers regarding contract and supply base matters.
  12. Drive and lead strategies to influence business decisions throughout the project life cycle.
  13. Identify solutions for complex areas of potential risk /opportunity e.g. sub-contract risk, IPR, liability and exchange rate exposure etc. and deliver solutions/mitigations.
  14. Draft and prepare complex contract documentation using standard and non-standard formats.
  15. Lead the generation and review of ‘appropriate’ specifications and Statement of Work documents.
  16. Promote a culture of best practice and sharing of knowledge within the function and across the wider business.
  17. Construct and lead the contracts and supply chain management Life Cycle Management (LCM) deliverables.
  18. Work with stakeholders, at all levels, in order to understand customer requirements and critical success factors.
  19. Management of Export Compliance, restrictions and third-party rights for all procured items and services.
  20. Operate as a locally acknowledged expert within the function.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

You really must have:

  1. Requires technical training to degree standard, professional qualification and/or significant domain experience (studying towards or achievement of MCIPS is preferred).
  2. Demonstrated collaboration, communication, planning, problem solving, influencing, decision making and continuous improvement skills.
  3. A good working knowledge and understanding of Procurement within the Defence/Aerospace industry (or a similar sector) and ability to apply them with minimal supervision and direction.
  4. Relationship building skills with cross-functional colleagues, customers and suppliers.
  5. A good understanding of the Commercial and Legal Aspects associated with contracting within the Defence/Aerospace industry (or a similar sector).
  6. An ability to think ‘outside of the box’ offering solutions to enable the function to add value and innovation.
  7. Ability to engage and influence cross-functional/cross site teams.

It would be nice if you had:

  1. A good understanding of Export Compliance associated with contracting within the Defence/Aerospace industry (or a similar sector).
  2. A good understanding of IPR associated with contracting within the Defence/Aerospace industry (or a similar sector).
  3. SAP familiarity (or equivalent integrated business systems).

Occasional Remote Worker (~90% onsite)
Must be able to obtain SC clearance.
