Overview

We are currently recruiting for a Project Manager to join the Estates Department of this high profile University complex.

They are the largest single site University campus in the UK at 440 acres; it is located close to a market town and is only minutes away from the motorway network. Their Facilities have been voted the best in the UK for the last five years.

The Estate is in a sylvan setting, with a huge variety of academic, residential, commercial and sports facilities and is 362,000 sq. m in total. There are 154 buildings as well as a further 85 acres that is currently agricultural land adjoining campus that has planning permission for further development.

The Capital Projects/PMO is responsible for providing multi-disciplinary consultancy services, including project management, for the University.

The section mainly consists of architects, building surveyors, technicians, engineers, who manage the property portfolio and development requirements of the University. These posts have been created to strengthen the existing project management team in response to demand for supervision of major/minor/LTM capital projects with values between £50k and £50m. Each project manager is expected to work with a minimum of supervision to deliver projects from inception to completion and to be able to demonstrate value for money for the University, though this is not necessarily a project at minimum cost.

You will act as project manager/client representative for the University on its major/minor/LTM capital projects responsible for appointing and managing teams of external consultants. The post-holder will be required to undertake the duties of a designer in taking briefs and other technical works associated with the planning and execution of projects.

This is a permanent position working 37 hours per week. You will receive 44 days annual leave inclusive of 8 bank holidays and 6 university closure days. This role also attracts a generous DC pension scheme, equating to 30% of salary per annum. You will also have access to sporting facilities and gym membership at staff rates and many other benefits.

Responsibilities

  • To project manage capital works with a minimum of supervision, preparing and presenting reports as required.
  • To provide procurement advice to University clients on construction works.
  • To obtain briefs from clients and test the briefs.
  • To assist clients in preparation of design proposals and employers requirements.
  • Undertake feasibility studies and prepare budget estimates.
  • To develop design proposals with consultants as required.
  • To brief and appoint external consultants on project requirements and to monitor the performance of the team and the project.
  • To control and supervise contractors working on site.
  • To liaise with other members of E&FM and co-ordinate works.
  • To develop and maintain, in conjunction with the E&FM Services section, the standardisation of specifications and working methods.
  • To understand and implement Health and Safety policies and requirements for yourself and others, commensurate with your level of responsibility within the Department to enable you to discharge your other duties and responsibilities safely.

Skills & Attributes

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate or willingness to undertake this.
  • Experience of building design and specification across a broad spectrum of building types.
  • Knowledge of building services design and specification as part of the design process.
  • Knowledge and previous use of traditional, D and B procurement routes/contract forms.
  • IT skills sufficient to be able to produce reports and statistical information.
  • Use of computer aided design.
  • Highly professional with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with project clients, customers and colleagues.
  • Ability to manage projects from inception to completion.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at any one time and prioritise a demanding workload.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation and experience of its application to construction projects.
  • A willingness to undertake future training as required.
  • Full Driving Licence required.
