This role involves working in a multi-discipline team with a number of Costain engineers. All our engineers are supportive, team players and create a great working environment. The role will support projects in Oil and Gas or our Nuclear sectors. Projects range from concept studies to FEED.

As a client-facing Principal Engineer, your responsibilities will include some or all of the following:

  1. Electrical discipline technical input for projects and/or proposals including preparation, checking and/or approval of engineering documentation.
  2. Allocating work and ensuring delivery against plan.
  3. Deliver high-quality electrical engineering tasks to schedule, budget and client satisfaction.
  4. Ensuring all applicable national and international codes of practice, legislation and company/client standards and procedures are complied with.
  5. Preparing equipment and materials requisitions for HV and LV switchboards, transformers, UPS systems, VFD’s, Motors, power factor correction, trace-heating, lighting and other electrical equipment.
  6. Preparing installation scopes of work.
  7. Reviewing supplier’s quotations and preparing technical bid assessments.

Competence is required in some or all of the following work areas:

  1. HV (33kV and below) system design.
  2. HV protection systems including protection schematics, grading studies and protection settings schedules.
  3. Detailed design of plants with large electrical networks.
  4. Earthing calculations and system design.
  5. Power system analysis including fault level calculations and load flows.
  6. Specifying electrical equipment for use in hazardous areas.
