About us

As an Embedded Software Engineer at Renishaw, you’ll be responsible for the analysis, design, development, and integration of firmware across a range of our Laser Calibration products.

Using proprietary technology, our range of Laser Calibration products set the benchmark in accuracy for thousands of engineering processes and systems ranging from CNC machining to the manufacture of advanced semiconductors and are recognised as the gold standard in the market.

You’ll be part of our team, using Agile methodologies, DevOps practices and collaborative software engineering tools. You’ll gain specific domain knowledge and be actively involved in the state-of-the-art technology solutions from R&D projects. You’ll also have the opportunity to develop mobile and desktop applications using C# and other technologies.

About you

  1. Qualified to degree level in Software Engineering or Electronics Engineering, or related field
  2. Hands-on experience working with microcontrollers and low-level protocols
  3. Passionate for developing product firmware with embedded C
  4. Experience in test-driven development / behavioural-driven development to ensure firmware quality
  5. Proficient in using RTOS and multithreaded techniques for embedded applications
  6. Knowledge of tools such as IAR, CLion, Eclipse, MCUExpresso, various Microsoft and Embedded IDEs, Enterprise Architect, and Atlassian suite
  7. Experience in designing electronic solutions, from schematic to PCB layout, bringing concepts to life through prototyping, and testing with EDA tools like Altium and Zuken

About the role

  1. You’ll craft the architecture of firmware and implement new embedded protocols for our products to verify and calibrate machine tool performance across a range of industries
  2. Develop comprehensive unit and integration tests for your firmware to meet the standards required for high quality product performance
  3. Conduct meticulous design and code reviews for your own work and with junior members of the team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
  4. Collaborate with project and product managers to define product specifications that align with customer requirements
  5. Partner with electronics engineers to optimise system engineering
  6. Guiding junior engineers through complex technical challenges and supporting their professional development
