UK Wallball is the national governing body for the sport of Wallball – a simple, accessible and inclusive urban sport where you hit a ball against a wall with your hands – a bit like squash, but without a racquet. Our aim is to revolutionise the β€˜grey’ spaces in our cities to make sure that every young person, especially those from more disadvantaged backgrounds, have the opportunity to get active, social and healthy with just a wall and ball.

The role

About UK Wallball

UK Wallball is a charity and national governing body (NGB) dedicated to creating accessible sporting opportunities in urban spaces. With just a wall and a ball, we help people get active, stay healthy, and connect with their communities. A key part of our mission is to expand our reach into schools and youth programs, ensuring more young people can benefit from the sport.

To date the majority of our work centres around school-aged children and innovative and exciting community projects. We have strong existing links with The Jack Petchey Foundation and Street Games. In the last 5 years we’ve engaged with over 40,000 young people, created exciting and innovative urban community courts, and trained up over 1000 Activator Junior Coaches.

About the Role

We are seeking a Trustee with expertise in education and youth engagement to help drive our strategy for expanding Wallball into schools, colleges, and community programs. This individual will play a key role in shaping how UK Wallball integrates with the education sector, forming partnerships, and ensuring our initiatives align with school needs and youth development priorities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Education Strategy – Develop and support initiatives to introduce Wallball into schools and educational settings.
  • School & Youth Partnerships – Build relationships with schools, academies, colleges, and youth organizations to promote participation.
  • Curriculum Alignment – Help integrate Wallball into PE curriculums and extracurricular programs.
  • Community Engagement – Ensure our programs are inclusive and beneficial to young people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Advocacy & Representation – Represent UK Wallball in discussions with education bodies, government agencies, and funding partners.
  • Safeguarding & Wellbeing – Ensure our youth-focused programs uphold best practices in safeguarding and child welfare.
  • Funding & Grants – Identify opportunities for school sport funding and support applications where relevant. We don’t expect you to do the applications, just to have your ear to the ground.

Who We’re Looking For:

We are looking for someone with:

  • Experience in education, youth work, or school sports programs.
  • Understanding of school curriculums and extracurricular activities.
  • Ability to build partnerships with schools, local authorities, and youth organizations.
  • Passion for youth development, sport, and accessibility.
  • Strong communication and advocacy skills.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection best practices (ideal but not essential).

Time Commitment:

  • We’re looking for a do-er, not an advisor/consultant.
  • Attendance at quarterly board meetings (held remotely or in person).
  • Desirable attendance at monthly team check-ins/calls with the CEO.
  • Occasional involvement in school engagement activities and strategic planning.
  • Estimated commitment: 6-12 hours per month .
