The role:

As a key member of our senior leadership team, the Sales Director is the driving force behind all our internal and external sales activities. Working closely with teams across the business, and providing guidance and direction to the UK-based sales team, the key focus will be designing and delivering effective sales strategies, setting sales targets and ensuring delivery against those. You will also provide leadership to our sales efforts, tracking and reporting on sales performance to ensure sustainable and continuing growth.

Main Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage, guide, recruit and direct the regional LED Lighting sales team in their activities aimed at the wholesale market.
  • Support field sales activity and ensure positive business relationships with national accounts, key buying groups, independent regional customers and potential end users of our products, ensuring that effective call cycles are maintained in all regions.
  • As part of the management team, provide input and feedback on product strategy and pricing to Product Managers.
  • Establishing and providing clear guidelines on account management, product strategy and marketing activity to stimulate regional sales activity.
  • Develop, guide and direct internal sales activities, ensuring the provision of internal support for the field sales team, whilst also encouraging and nurturing proactive internal sales activity aimed at installers, electricians, and other potential clients.
  • Set performance objectives and key deliverables for the sales team, ensuring that regional opportunities are maximised, and managing individuals to ensure achievement of these objectives.
  • Strategise and organise regional sales events like promotions, product training, coffee mornings and other activities to enhance customer engagement and build closer relationships with clients.
  • As part of the SLT, contribute to the strategy to develop business with electrical contractors, facilities management, house builders, architects, lighting designers and M&E consultants, working closely with Marketing.
  • Utilise the CRM system fully through a consolidated communications plan to clients, in conjunction with the Marketing team.
  • Set strategy for Point of Sales and in-store promotional activity, ensuring the provision of strategic marketing collateral (brochures, leaflets, price lists, displays, etc) in communication with the regional sales team, customers and our own Marketing team.
  • Work with national wholesalers, buying groups and independents on annual agreements and tenders and to open marketing buy-ins.
  • Ensure the positioning of our products and brand in national and regional publications, and alongside client marketing activities.
  • Work with the Marketing team to ensure delivery and execution of campaigns.
  • Track, analyse and report to the business, sales team and customers on utilisation of the product mix, trends, rebate performance, efficiency of marketing campaigns, sales performance, etc.
  • Ensure that all reporting and business intelligence tools are utilised efficiently to continually add data to the evolving and rapidly changing business dynamic.

Skills Required:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience of managing a high-performing sales team.
  • Demonstrable experience of the electrical wholesale industry.
  • Experience of developing business with electrical contractors and electricians, with an appreciation of the marketing requirements of electrical wholesalers.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with a strong drive to build, develop, manage and lead a successful high performing sales team.
  • Sound commercial mindset and ability to negotiate.
  • Sound analytical skills and a demonstrable ability to use data.
  • Experience using CRM and BI tools to manage high-performing Sales Teams.
