C&I Project Engineer – Anaerobic Digestion & Biomethane

Hybrid (Home Working, Midlands/London Offices & Sites Across the UK)

Our client is developing and building multiple anaerobic digestion projects in the UK with ambitious plans to become the largest producer of biomethane, biogenic CO2 and green fertiliser in the UK. The company has excellent prospects ahead and plans to grow substantially in the coming years.

They are recruiting a C&I Project Engineer to help them implement an industry leading and future proofed controls system on all their developments. Supported by the EC&I Automation Lead and wider team you will help to integrate projects into the overall SCADA system. Considerable time will need to be invested in working with their AD process, upgraders and compressor suppliers to ensure compatibility with the SCADA system. You will act as a technical reviewer during the design phase, and an on-site presence during installation and commissioning to ensure a high quality result.

After commissioning you will have the option to join the team responsible for maintaining and upgrading the projects throughout the lifetime of the plants.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Delivery of site OT network infrastructure.
  • Oversight of SCADA system delivery and integration by a third party.
  • Technical review/monitoring of multiple Package PLCs and associated wiring and instrumentation by third parties.
  • Prepare technical specifications and documents.
  • Chair and attend internal and external design review and progress meetings.
  • Attend factory acceptance testing.
  • Attend/undertake PLC code reviews.
  • Co-ordinate and liaise with suppliers, specialist sub-contractors, in-house functions, site installations and construction teams.
  • Procurement, deployment and testing of OT infrastructure on sites.
  • Site visits/meetings as subject area specialist to confirm reported progress and monitor installation quality.
  • Witness site testing and commissioning by suppliers as subject area specialist.
  • Undertake client training from suppliers on delivered systems.
  • Proactively manage engineering risks and issues.
  • Answer questions and queries that arise during the project.
  • Compile and collate final contract documentation, “As built” drawings, test sheets etc. for inclusion into operation and maintenance manuals.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

You will have worked within multi-disciplinary teams in a projects or maintenance role with practical experience on site. Ideally in the Anaerobic digestion or biomethane sector or related process industries. You will be proactive and happy to take ownership of tasks and contribute to the growth of our business. They are looking for enthusiastic problem solvers who enjoy working as part of a developing business.

Required Education:

  • Bachelors or Master’s degree or equivalent in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or similar.
  • You must know best practices for instrument installation, wiring, panel construction.

Required Experience:

  • Fault finding and resolution on plant using P&IDs, wiring diagrams, technical drawings etc.
  • Project delivery from an engineering perspective, either from the supplier side or client side, including installation and commissioning.
  • PLC programming and/or use for maintenance (preferably Siemens S7 family).
  • Working under DSEAR regulations.
  • At least a basic understanding of IEC 61508 Functional Safety Standard.

Desired Experience (Or willingness to learn):

  • Aveva Wonderware SCADA system knowledge
  • Strong computer networking knowledge (especially around OSI layer 2 and 3).
  • Firewall, router and network switch configuration.
  • OT System upkeep (patching, monitoring, upgrading).
  • Cybersecurity basics.
  • Virtual machine use.
  • Linux operating system command line use.
  • Experience in Anaerobic Digestion, biogas/biomethane, liquid organic waste management and biomethane injection would be beneficial.
