The Division of Surgery is one of four Operational Divisions within University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trusts (UHDB). The Division of Surgery comprises four Business Units: Head Neck Eyes and Plastic (HNEP), General Surgery, Urology, and Vascular (GSU), Theatres, Anaesthetics and ITU (A&T), and Trauma and Orthopaedics encompassing General Orthopaedics, Trauma, Spines, and Hands from the dedicated Pulvertaft Centre (T&O).

Each Business is clinically led and operationally managed by a dynamic triumvirate of a Clinical Lead, General Manager, and Lead Nurse. The T&O services are delivered across all of our sites with outpatient appointments and diagnostics at both main acute hospitals and a further eight community sites, with surgeries performed at Royal Derby, Burton, and Ilkeston Hospitals.

The UHDB T&O service is one of the largest in the country and, having struggled to reduce waits in line with national targets, we believe we have now turned that corner and are laser-focused on driving our performance to be the best in the country. Do you have the drive, ambition, focus, skills, and experience to help make that happen? If you believe you do, we would really like to hear from you. The GM role is hugely challenging but also very rewarding and a great career move for those aspiring to Director and Executive levels within a large complex organisation.

You Will Be Responsible For:

  • Supporting the Divisional Director in directing, guiding, and leading the Business Unit Management Teams in the overall management of the Business Unit and for developing business strategic plans.
  • Performance management frameworks to ensure the delivery of all key activity and financial targets.
  • A key dimension will be to support the Divisional Director in engaging Clinical Managers in the complex management agenda, including the preparation of annual business plans and the development of capacity and capability to deliver both local and national priorities.

Closing date of applications: 20 March 2025
Interview date: 3 April 2025

As a trusted organisation at the heart of our communities, we recognise the important role we can play in supporting the public, patients, our own people, and local partners in achieving the best of health for the local population and the communities in which they live by providing Exceptional Care Together.

Our fundamental values of Compassion, Openness, and Excellence underpin how we intend to work as a Trust, and the associated behaviours are becoming embedded in all aspects of how we work.

In Return We Will Offer:

  • Development opportunities, both professional and leadership development.
  • On-going support from recruitment to when you join our team and beyond.
  • Staff benefits including employee assistance programme, discounted gym membership, onsite fitness classes, and car schemes.
